Babies being swapped at the hospital

This. Our kids all had arm and leg tags with 'FIG (surname)' on them, as well as an alarm around the ankle that locks down the hospital and sets off an alarm if the baby leaves the ward, before they'd even cut the cord - literally.

Edit: Now read the Tweet Reddit (derp) thread in the OP, and I feel sick. I can't even imagine!... Jeez.

What is it with Liverpool and ankle tags?

How do you know it didnt slip off and get put on another one?

Ever been on an all inclusive holiday where you're being battered by alcohol, playing sports and swimming in the sea/pool all day?
Well it's like those indestructible wristbands they put on but for babies.

You know that you don't need to leave the label on for that long, right? You're safe enough to remove it when you get home from hospital!

Not my two, they're from Blurton in Stoke.
They get lost coming out of nightclubs.

I’ve often wondered about this. People who make all kinds of mistakes in jobs so it can certainly happen!
As SGF says probably not in this country for a very long time, they've been paranoid about the theft of babies, and even before that (the 90's IIRC*) they did the tagging very soon after birth specifically to prevent issues.

*I seem to remember a few cases (one or two) of someone walking into an old style maternity ward and walking out with someone's baby, and the rush to very rapidly make all maternity wards very secure and up the security on normal kids wards as well. Mainly as my sister was pregnant with my oldest nephew at the time, and she was utterly paranoid about him being stolen, and because she gave birth in the brand new maternity ward at the local hospital which was like gaining access to a prison for visitors:)

I often have to go and see the Matron in Maternity and it's like Fort Knox.
Even though they know me I still have to be passed off.

Or just inject them with the vaccine so that they get installed with a 5G chip and you can trace them using the NHS app on this flat earth
