Well if they're arresting Muscovites for being even mildly suspected of criticism of the Russian government then owing to centuries of unbroken Russian oppression of conquered minorities it should stand to reason that they treat Ukrainians who they happily derogate with the term 'Kulak' rather more unpleasantly.
Yea but the posts from you lot at times border on ridiculous, you took it from treated unpleasantly to put into a grave.

Ukraine is getting more equipment, more training, more intel, more money, more aid etc.

Nato and EU sound alarm over risk of Ukraine weapons smuggling

Nato and EU states are pushing for better tracking of weapons supplied to Ukraine in response to fears that criminal groups are smuggling them out of the country and on to Europe’s black market. Since Russia launched its war against Ukraine, western states have pledged more than $10bn in military support, from portable rocket launchers and armoured vehicles to rifles and vast amounts of ammunition. A number of Nato member states are discussing with Kyiv some form of tracking system or detailed inventory lists for weapons supplied to Ukraine, two western officials briefed on the talks told the Financial Times. Ukraine’s government is setting up a more extensive weapons monitoring and tracing system with the help of western countries, a third person familiar with the situation said. “All these weapons land in southern Poland, get shipped to the border and then are just divided up into vehicles to cross: trucks, vans, sometimes private cars,” said one of the western officials. “And from that moment we go blank on their location and we have no idea where they go, where they are used or even if they stay in the country.” The potential for US weapons sent to Ukraine to fall into the wrong hands is “among a host of considerations” given the “challenging situation” on the ground in the country, said Bonnie Denise Jenkins, US under secretary for arms control and international security, on Tuesday. “The US very seriously takes our responsibility to protect American origin defence technologies and prevent their diversion or illicit proliferation,” Jenkins told reporters in Brussels, adding that the US was in “continued contact” with Kyiv on the issue.

Im not sure you have been following, but when we had the cold snaps earlier this year russian soliders were freezing to death in some parts. They arent being sent with the right equipment for fighting in optimal conditions, let alone when the weather turns, the HIMARS systems have dramatically reduced the Russians most effective playbook (smash it with artillery) and the Russian advance has slowed to a snails pace while all the time Ukraine is getting more equipment, more training, more intel, more money, more aid etc.

I was talking about the Russian people in general, they are used to the power going off and long term deprivation in the shops, we aren't ;) We have seizures if there's talk of a toilet paper shortage.

Don’t worry, we’ve got no shortage of money or equipment. The Russians meanwhile seem to be losing plenty with little way to replace it. Ukrainians are happy to fight the good fight to reclaim their homes. Putin can’t win, all he can do is inflict increasing harm on himself and his country.

Really? I thought many here thought we were an impoverished and inconsequential little bigoted outpost? ;)

They aren't used to it, Russians are used to a certain amount of affluence now and they certainly don't want to go back to 90s.

Nordstream 1 is currently offline and during the period when European countries would normally be topping up their gas storage there will be a shortage via this route one assumes. I wouldn't be surprised if Putin's plan is to force the Europeans to go into the winter with historically low gas reserves which will give him a real time ability to affect heating and electricity in large parts of Europe.

Trudeau has released a turbine required for Nordstream 1 despite sanctions, I think this is a ploy to weaken the sanctions bit by bit. It is easy to imagine back in the February when this all kicked and EU leaders were grandstanding with the harshest sanctions ever they expected the Ukraine to lose by the Summer and life to return to normal. As this war seems less likely to end so the burden of those sanctions and arming Ukraine gets higher how long will the commitment last I wonder.

We've got some drying units required for it on our site that are not going anywhere.
A Chinese company tried to take ownership of them and that was rapidly dismissed too.

As long as key weapon components are sanctioned it doesn’t matter quite as much. As far as I’m aware Russia’s main tank production line is still shut down with them having nearly lost half their ‘battle ready’ tanks in Ukraine.

That is just incorrect, they are no different to us, and they don’t like the cold at all either!

Go to the Kyiv Independant above on Twitter and look at the latest photo from that strike dont worry it blurred but you will see!
These strikes will keep happening as they just don't seem to care about civilian collateral.

I hope they can sink a few more cruisers out in the black sea with some anti-ship missiles (if they have that range capability)!

I think the fact that they've tried to use antiship/missiles intended to carry both large "conventional" and "near misses will do" nuclear warheads that aren't accurate as "cruise missiles" is also telling that they're either running low on certain munitions being ready, or are trying stuff out because they're worried about running out.

IIRC the missile they used to hit a shopping centre was never intended for use against land targets and utterly unsuited for it as it's terminal guidance was to go for the biggest radar return in it's target area, which is perfect if you're at sea trying to hit an enemy aircraft carrier, but utterly useless in land warfare where you're trying to hit a specific target that may be surrounded by much bigger, juicier non targets.

I honestly can't see Russia managing to replace many of it's better munitions in the short term*, things that they're going to need to use more if their logistics are getting messed up, if you can only get X tons of munitions to the front, you really want them to be the most effective ones.

*I seem to remember even the US ran into issues with production of some of it's better munitions during the first gulf war, and possibly the Iraq war but at least they could make everything needed in country and it was basically an issue with increasing production from "maintenance" and Training to wartime levels (and largely down to funding as they were expensive items).

Yeah a large amount of Russian military hardware seems to have been designed in an era and/or iterated on designs from an era where the mentality was if it was used the most likely scenario would be all out war with the West.

I don't think they can turn the ship around quickly both in weapon design/tech and supplies of munitions, etc. but I think people massively underestimate the ability for Russia to adjust, eventually. (Take Garage 54 for instance - sure not particularly unique but that kind of spirit/ability is there).

There is only two scenarios under which I could see Ukraine being happy to hand Russia territory.

1) Russia utterly defeats Ukraine in battle which seems unlikely

2) Ukraine gets something tangible in return - just handing over territory with a peace treaty does nothing, Russia will come back for more in a few years, they've shown that to be true. The West needs to give Ukraine something tangible - for example they can come up with some agreement that Ukraine hands over some territory and in return the West either puts Ukraine into NATO or signs a comprehensive defence agreement that basically gaurantees WW3 if Russia comes back and this would need to include the stationing of western defences along the border between Ukraine and the new Russian border
I don't think Ukraine has to beat Russia outright they just to make untenable for Russia to remain in Ukraine via constant attrition of manpower and equipment combined with all the partizan activity behind Russian lines. Of course what help is if Europe would cut off Russian fuels that would speed things up, couple that with the west leveling up Ukraine's army and Russia has some serious decision making to do.

Given the words from the Western leaders, Ukraine needs to outright defeat Russia

Kind of wondering if Ukraine has possibly gotten tired of trying to justify itself amidst constant attacks on civilian targets and is considering sending out blackops to particularly sensitive infrastructure around Moscow such as the FSB HQ or the Kremlin itself.

Oh yea they should definitely do this, Ukraine should stop holding back....
