My brother just picked up a 3090 second hand for £600 what a deal! They're over a £1000 ex VAT new. No scam here are his 3D Mark results...

From what I hear the seller originally asked for £1000 then dropped to £800 then my brother made a cheeky offer of £600 which he accepted. We're in Jersey so the cheapest new 3090 from overclockers is the Palit GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming Pro 24GB GDDR6X PCI-Express Graphics Card @ 1083.29 ex VAT + Delivery and 5% GST so £ 1164.44 in total.

A saving of £564.44, puts my AMD Radeon 6750XT to shame.

Thats an Awesome price for the GPU. your brothers very lucky. You did'nt mention what Make the Graphics card is or if the user had mined on it.
none the less thats a bargain

Needs to get a new 32” 4K 144hz TV to go with it, as far as I’m aware he’s gaming on a 32” 1080p TV. At least I’ve got a 4K 144hz monitor to push my 6750xt to its limits.

It's an amazing price providing it doesn't fail (unless the warrenty is transferable). I'd rather spend similar money on a new 3070 with full warrenty for peace of mind.

To be perfectly honest, its a terrible time to buy a 3090 second hand, even @ £600, around the corner we have GPUs that for 500-600 will trounce the 3090ti.....brand new with warranty and significantly stronger ray tracing performance...its just, **** poor time to buy, unless your card literally failed, in which case a used 1070 would still be the better bet and then buy new....so either way, sorry but, its just people being desperate for something to buy/use and lacking the patience to make the smart purchase.

How about they just wanted to max out games at 4k now and didn't want it wait. If they are happy then what's the difference. There is simply no need for you to be sorry about you being butt hurt about someone else's purchase. It doesn't affect you in the slightest

Firstly, why would I be butt hurt?.

And finally, it was a poor purchase, timing stinks, and the reasoning you used stinks even more. The 3090 will pale in comparison to the stuff thats around the corner, especially when you focus on something like 4k, thats where the gap will widen even more, and where the longer lasting GPU is even more important being more gpu bound at the 4k ress and less focus on the CPU, this would give the system a much longer life span. Put simply, in a 24 month cycle, who the hell buys the high end at month 20, used with no warranties, a gpu which will be trashed for a lower price, ugh. Doesn't matter how you try and spin it, a bad purchase is a bad purchase.

I’ve not kept up to date on pending releases but is this confirmed or just wishful thinking?
This is ofc not confirmed, they would be mad to. But this is basically a given and widely reported on in the industry.... this will be the biggest push in performance since Pascal, perhaps even more. The rtx 4070 is expected to be 5-10% above a 3090.

AMD is supposed to be aiming for a 50% performance per watt improvement. https://wccftech.com/amd-rdna-3-gpu...capbilities-higher-clocks-av1-dp-2-0-support/
Techpowerup has the 3090 at 133% of the performance of the 6800. So in theory the 7000 series version of the 6800 would perform about 17% ahead of the 3090 on the Techpowerup chart. Of course there are variables such as how much of the increase is performance as opposed to saving wattage. So a 3090 for £600 now is a reasonable buy as long as it keeps working, I hope that your brother gets lots of enjoyment from it
