Why do people whistle, do they think it's a show of talent?

I used to hum to myself as a young kid even at school, whenever drawing etc, I would sit humming away. I didn't realise I was doing it. None of my classmates ever said anything. I am talking about when I was 11! One day the teacher told me to quit but I subconsciously did it again, got a rollicking!

I occasionally whistle to myself, not at work, its weird, as I cant actually think back to when I do, but I know I will whistle away sometimes!

Before fragility set in, whistling was often an APPRECIATION of talent. The short skirted, low cut top kind of talent... :)

Now it seems it's akin to aural torture or something even more invasive than the new to me phrase of "stare rape" ;)

Historical fact (I heard it many years ago)

People whistled for their own entertainment then personal stereos came along and people could listen to music instead of making their own.

I don't consider that to be a Latin rambling since it's commonly used and most of our words are Latin anyway.
Any other examples?
Dude, I was being facetious.....

(Much like the OP complaining of whistling and how it annoys him, the use of irrelevant Latin does the same to me).

You've missed the main point of resurrecting this thread, which is that several years later I was diagnosed with misophonia. But that's OK, it's easy to miss it.
