Pandemic 2.0?

real eggshell here is anal sex.

Younger generation , millenials/genz, who weren't there during 80/90s haven't got the caution on promiscuity older folks do - needs to be a lesson re-learned re: herpes too.

Actually it's been massively increasing in the older age groups.

Anal sex is de-rigeur now even in straight couples of all age groups. It's actually super popular now.

In the 80/90s as you say we only associated that as a "gay" thing.

I think we got it scared out of us as kids/teens.

What? A virtue signalling movement? Well they're still ridiculously over the top with political correctness and walking on eggshell wokiness.

Not sure why they can't just say gay mean.

You said you can't call Black people black in America

This is just wrong.

You've now decided to pivot the argument I was making

Well my point still stands. They prefer the term "African American" in their census forms and when you here professionals talk that's what they say.

Sure on the streets of NY or San Fran they'll probably say black but it seems a bit of a "is that the right thing to say?" behaviour. The point I was making was in answer to the "men who have sex with men". What was wrong with just gay men?" Comment that @Zatoichi.uK made is that the US is fond of political correctness to an extreme.

I suppose it will be the bisexuals, sorry men who have sex with men and women, who will spread this out to the wider community.

Apparently you can also contract it by simply visiting 'a sauna'.

From what I understand basically prolonged contact with either the infected person or something they'vw had prolonged contact with is enough. So yes just visiting a sauna could do it, if for example you sat where the infected person did, or used towels etc that had not been cleaned sufficiently (potentially sitting in the same seat on a train could do it)

This is nothing new, smallpox (closely related we enough for it's vaccine to work) could be spread by contaminated bedding and clothing.

What I did find odd was the casualness or normalisation of having unprotected sex with multiple partners inc random people. That’s just a bit gross, I don’t think it’s normal for straight people to behave like that.
Arguably folk have become more cautious over the years, in certainly wasn't in my younger years at high school and uni, but it's a bit of a sheltered view to now assume only gay people have unprotected sex with multiple partners when the reality is that it's fairly common amongst all genders and orientations.

Not quite, (large) droplets and contact with skin lesions are known to spread it, it's hypothesised that you might also catch it from fomites on surfaces, linens etc..so it seems more like maybe you'd get it in the sauna if you rubbed against some of their pox and/or perhaps more likely had some sort of wound/scratch yourself coming into contact with them otherwise you'd be super unlucky to catch it.

Or indeed if they're talking to you and cough in your face though in that latter case; saliva, large droplets, why isn't is spreading among promiscuous hetero people who've been going to clubs and making out all summer? It seems like it's still relatively hard to catch that way yet bi guys should have transferred it across if it were easily spread? Maybe it's too early and that will still be a risk? Maybe after some mutation it will more easily spread that way? So far not much to suggest that though.

Having actual skin lesions on your genitalia (and also the currently unknown possibility of it being transmitted via semen) and anal sex being high risk for infection -> 98% of cases being promiscuous gay and bisexual men so far would seem to indicate that the other methods of infection are rather lower risk in comparison.

older generation 45+ STI rate is still low , versus 20's nonetheless, and MSM ( first time i've seen mention of WSW )
the cost to the NHS ?

Interestingly for monkeypox though the median age is 37.

Kinda in line with the STDs too - for hetero men it peaks in the 20-24 age bracket and the 2nd highest is the 15-19 bracket.

For homo men it peaks in the 25-34 bracket and the 2nd highest is the 35 - 44 bracket.

I imagine there was someone between him and the sauna bench in this story!
