Managing is probable, but it would be sclerotic due to the intellectuals that would be required to attain genuine growth who are direct threat to the security of the Muscovite mob.

The farce will continue as long as europe keeps paying billions for russian gas while simultaneously sanctioning them.

But the longer russia goes without western-associated tech trade the more awkward very specific shortages will become for them.

I guess they're gonna squeeze the gas angle as much as they can without actually turning it off to scare politicians into fearing for their careers and dropping support for ukraine.

If sanctions get dropped quickly there won't be time for serious damage from shortages of support and parts and products to take effect.

Latest intelligence updates:

* Ukraine's counter-offensive in Kherson is gathering momentum. Their forces have established a bridgehead south of the Ingulets River, which forms the northern boundary of Russian-occupied Kherson.

* Ukraine has used its new long range artillery to damage at least three of the bridges across the Dnipro River which Russia relies upon to supply the areas under its control. One of these, the 1,000 metre long Antonivsky bridge near Kherson city, was damaged last week. Ukraine struck it again on 27 July 2022 and it is highly likely that the crossing is now unusable.

* Russia's 49th Army is stationed on the west bank of the Dnipro River and now looks vulnerable. Similarly, Kherson city, the most politically significant population centre occupied by Russia, is now virtually cut off from the other occupied territories. Its loss would severely undermine Russia's attempts to paint the occupation as a success.

And latest estimates from US officials: 75,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or injured since February 24.

Where as in reality it increases our support of any person or country against Russia. There’s little left to stop countries supplying the big stuff to Ukraine now, hence we’re seeing larger and larger arms deals.

Seems UK has sanctioned Graham Philips, he's a British propagandist who's worked for RT news in the past and has been making videos in ukraine as well being accused of war crimes.

He's unlikely to be the last as criteria for sanctions are widened and the British government seeks to sanction those who attempt to legitimise the Nazis in the Kremlin

Germany, and others, look bullied. Announcing they will cut their own gas requirements by 15% is like making a statement to a bully "I'll give you by lunch box every day".

It's not going to stop Russia reducing gas further.

Germany and Europe are being smothered to death.
Germany and Europe have the option to get out of this bad situation, the only thing they need to do is to stop being aggressive towards Russia.

Sure, once Russia leaves Ukrainian territory, and once Russia stops being agressive in is posturing in airspace, and sending ships to prod defences left right and centre. There's only one side that started this all.

The 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 / Howitzer deal that was agreed in March/ April is going ahead and production will start in the next few weeks. The EU is not going to stop supporting Ukraine any time soon, and it shouldn't.

They're not wrong though :)

If this invasion lasts through winter, and European countries start losing a "larger amount than normal" of people due to the cold and lack of gas, that'll put pressure on those countries to deal with Russia again. "The West" generally seems to have a very short memory once its people start dying, so I'm sure Russia is just praying the Winter is harsh this year, because the Russian leadership doesn't give a crap if it's own people freeze to death, whilst they know it'd probably "force" a whole bunch of European countries back to buying gas from them.

It's a shame that the very responsible (and prophetic) message "You need to stop depending on Russia for your energy" was lost on the Germans and other just because the messenger was Trump - I very much doubt those same Germans who laughed at that message 4 year earlier will be doing so this Winter as their country suffers.

To be fair I don't think a lot of people understand what muzzle brakes do and why if you see one you don't want to be facing one

Huh so Russia really did believe it was going to be a 3 day operation and Ukraine government would have capitulated thanks to their nest of secret agents embedded within Ukraine

I can understand the civilians not knowing, but you'd imagine that the artillery team right next to them should have said something, or maybe they were just letting the reporters get "a shock" as a bit of a laugh/prank etc without realising the consequences.

I mean they clearly are wrong, saying to be less aggressive to Russia, the country who is right this minute invading Ukraine and doing it's best to kill Ukrainian troops/civilians.

Frankly they deserve a good deal of aggression in retaliation, and if they don't like it they should pack up and leave Ukraine.

It's mad to label Europe's stance towards Russia as 'aggressive'. The West has been very restrained in the face of actual aggression from Russia. Any perceived aggression towards Russia has been earned 100 times over.

Oh I dunno there is arguably a bit of passive aggressiveness going on.

Russia likes to confuse and disrupt.
I can imagine a weeks time it turns up to 95% and says its all fixed guys nothing to worry about this winter.
Then a week later turn it off completely once countries have yet again agreed or removed agreements based on more gas.

I think you may have misunderstood my post. It was meant in the same way as if one person said "My foot hurts" and someone replied "OK then, I'll shoot you in the arm, that'll take your mind off the foot pain" then you could also say "well they're not wrong" etc because it is a solution to the problem posed, even if it's the solution is absolutely stupid. Thats why I put a smilie face on the end, to show I was being funny, guess that didn't work!

Hopefully that clears that up.

Edit - I do worry about the coming Winter though, as that "stupid" solution maybe starts to look more and more "rational" to the Politicians as the deaths build up and the people start to get cold and angry, who know what deals they'll do to keep the heat on.
