Given what is going on in Ukraine, which you occasionally pretend to care about, that is incredibly callous and tasteless. Finding it amusing to post claptrap like that while people suffer is sick.

I thought they were nice pictures, showed even the Russians take a break and enjoy summer like the rest of us, I do not see them as different to you and me. I guess you have a different take on it.

Russians needed to do it like the Sri lanka style recently

Russia is a huge country with many of the population actually effectively as remote to this conflict as we are. Something which tends to discourage protesting as well is that, while not to the degree of somewhere like North Korea, those in a position to effectively protest tend to have just enough they have something to lose.

No that over a million in London, 3 in Italy and countless more in other countries showed that the general population was against it, unlike Russia and a few thousand protesters.

You can arrest a few thousand who have some morals, good luck arresting millions.
Shows that the Russian public was supportive or didn't care .
You're missing the point, had we lived in Russia there would not be a million turn out so they would not need to. Their own media is a lot less transparent about what is going on and going against the government doesn't usually end well for the citizens.

The state could not send that number of people to a gulag etc. If that many Russians had a pair of moral stones they could overthrow the government easily.
You’re right they couldn’t. But because their populace know what potentially awaits them if they protest that’s going to significantly reduce the number who will actually protest.

Weather forecast Kyiv: Mostly sunny with a chance of cruise missiles.

I can't believe he's still able to linger around to spout his bile. Mods should have dealt with him long ago tbh.

You cant possibly underestimate China.

They have huge numbers in everything and the conflict would be in their territory.

The mighty USA would have a very hard time fighting China, the losses on both sides would be massive as the USA would have to bring in a lot of men and equipment fast.

Nothing good can come from a USA, Taiwan, China conflict, it would be world war 3 and all bets would be off about Nukes as I fear they would start flyng.

Eh? I think you need to re-read what you're replying to, the islands they claim aren't necessarily their "territory" but that's somewhat moot, the US could easily attack the facilities there and China would have a far harder time trying to resupply them. Ditto to bombing their naval bases or indeed destroying Chinese fast jets over the south China sea ... that doesn't require a lot of men! It requires a powerful Navy with aircraft carriers, good air defence destroyers and cruise missiles, something the US already has in the area for good reason.

It's easy to protest when nothing is on the line but your free time, I wonder how many would feel so strongly if it risked their freedom being taken away as we saw with Covid and peoples attitude to a couple of lockdowns

Why isn't Russia cutting off energy supplies to a country not considered an act of war?
Historical precedent. If the rules were changed to make it an act of war then it would result in a lot of difficult repercussions/impacts (I.E Pearl Harbour retroactively becoming a justified response to US "aggression").

Yeap I agree.

In fact I'm 100% sure alchal would definitely still be outside protesting if there was the genuine threat of being "disappeared", because if they weren't then they'd just be yet another a massive hypocritical Keyboard Warrior wouldn't they.

Personally I just think it shows utter arrogance/privilege to say "well in my nice and safe country nothing bad will happen if I protest so you foreigners should protest too, even if you die, and if you don't you're all evil people who 100% agree with everything your Government/Military are doing" but it looks like again we've found another person demanding other people genuinely risk their life "or else you're bad" and, again, they just happen to be very left wing, another shocking non-surprise sadly.

There is of course the argument that failure to protest and remove the Russian government will mean a life of suspicion and violence anyway since they've already started to go hard on the forced patriotism stuff in schools/public institutions. Wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being forced on everyone where if someone fails to be enthusiastically 'patriotic' they will immediately be targeted as a traitor.

Bit awkward for a people who have experienced this multiple times, but oh well probably deserve it anyway.

At best it is thoughtless, all over Ukraine even if the weather is nice there are people sub-consciously if not consciously on edge listening for the distant sounds of danger - explosions, jet engines, air raid sirens, gun fire or the news they'll have to evacuate their homes due to approaching Russian forces.

But it is nice they can relax in Moscow.

You know I just took the pictures from The Guardian article, I thought even though it was about the war in Ukraine it was a nice change. I thought it would make a nice change if people can see they look no different from us, they enjoy the same things as us, they don't want to hear about this war, they wish it wasn't going on and also they wish they could forget about it.

“Yes, we are having a party,” said Anna Mitrokhina, one of the dancers at an outdoor dance platform on the Moscow river, wearing a blue-sequin dress and heavy eye-makeup. “We are outside of politics, we want to dance, to feel and have fun. I can’t worry any more and this helps me forget.”

A lifestyle Instagram blogger with more than 100,000 followers who was opposed to the war said that she had consciously decided to stop speaking about the topic – because of the official restrictions but also the backlash she received from subscribers.

“Nobody wants to hear about the war, the special military operation, any more, they tell me to stop talking about this and get back to normal topics like beauty and fitness,”

“The inability to influence what is happening makes people think less about global political issues and focus more on everyday subjects, on life here and now,”

After a wave of repressions, there are fewer voices now speaking out publicly against the war. But some remain.

At a table by the window in Moscow’s Pushkin cafe, Alexey Venediktov is loudly decrying the conflict as “catastrophic” as the waitstaff look on with an air of concern. The former head of Echo of Moscow, the Russian radio station that was shut down after its public opposition to the war, has now been declared a foreign agent. “I was an enemy, now I am a traitor,”

Those who are hating on the Russians did you even read the article before your rage kicked in?

Can you imagine the Russian protests if we cut off their gas supply? We saw evidence of that with Lithuania restricting supplies of building materials to Kaliningrad. Unfortunately we have become too soft. If you let bullies get away with things, they don't know where to stop.
