I am not looking for argument here every person has different opinion for me its not great champion but i see you like Usyk so mutch, as far i can see Usyk only was fihting AJ thats only 2 fights in heavyweight devision if he is graet champion he should show this in next lets say 3 more figths againts big boys them we have claer picture.
By your standards, who is a great champion? AJ had been in nothing but world title fights from his
16th fight onwards. He didn't have a massive amateur career and even then in his short amateur career he won silver at the world championships and a, if being honest gifted, gold at the London Olympics. He never ducked a mandatory, unified twice and defended his belt a bunch of times. Fought names from the top 10 and came up short against a potential generational great. What about AJ makes him a bad champion and perhaps you can compare him to someone you think was a great champion.
It's not about having an argument but I'd just like to see your reasoning for him not being a great champion. Just back up what you're saying is all.
I really don't understand the 'AJ is overrated/a hype job' argument. The facts speak for themselves. All you need to do is look at his resume, the number of top 10 boxers he has shared a ring with, his title defences and the fact he is now a 2 time champion. When you look beyond that and dig deeper into his non-existent amateur career (when compared to the likes of Usyk), it's even more impressive that he managed to reach the heights he has.
A lot of the all time greats have lost multiple times - Ali, Lewis, Tyson, Foreman, Holyfield, Fraizer etc. AJ lost against Ruiz and then won convincingly in the rematch. He lost against Usyk twice yes, but Usyk is a p4p champion and will likely be regarded as one of the greatest ever. It's not like he lost against Lucas Browne.
I don't think anyone is claiming AJ is an all time great, but saying he's overrated is a big disservice to a great career.
I would be interested in seeing a graph which shows the parallels between fans who think AJ is a hype job but see Fury as one of the greatest ever to lace up gloves.
Anyone who achieved what he did can't be called a hype job, seriously. Sure, he had the Sky machine behind him and they probably over-egged him a bit but his record speaks for himself. Doing this from memory and not looking at BoxRec but he fought Charles Martin in his 16th fight for the IBF belt, then Dominic Breazelle as a voluntary, then he unified with Klitschko for the vacant (cause Fury was a drug cheat and decided to let himself go) WBA and IBO belts and then after that wasn't he straight into another unification with Parker for the WBO belt? Then spent a year or so trying to make the Wilder fight for undisputed but got messed around. He could've very well been undisputed by now had things gone differently.
Is he going to be the greatest of all time, of course not. Has he had one of the better careers at heavyweight in a long time? absolutely.
I guess he feared gassing out and then making headlines for getting KOd but I'd have liked AJ to put it on Usyk from round one (maybe not literally round one, but much earlier than round none). Easier said than done yeah but I think he was still too reserved and didn't use his size.
He did so much better than the first fight but sometimes you just have to accept someone has your number and they're better than you. I think of Usyk being similar to Floyd Mayweather. When viewing from outside of the ring the answer is simple. Apply pressure and force the action on him. You then get fighters before they fight Floyd explain how they're going to really put it on him and he hasn't fought someone like him before. Then comes fight night and they realise they easy plan they were talking was nonsense. You can't put it on Floyd because Floyd gives you no openings. He is just too damn good.
Funnily enough, when I was watching the fight with my partner we both got gassed during round 9. It looked like AJ had hurt Usyk (watching it back again, he didn't) and may have had a chance of forcing a stoppage. But what happened after that point was spectacular. Usyk came out and easily took the next 3 rounds. It was like when FMJ was fighting Shane Moseley. Moseley hit Mayweather better than anyone ever did (Maidana was close at the end of the round) and properly buckled Mayweathers legs. What happened after round 3 was beautiful. He came out and put one hell of a beating on Shane for the rest of the fight. That was what Usyk reminded me of during rounds 9-12. Just a special special fighter.
