Holidays 2022

@413x have you done a write of your canoe/kayak trip? Particularly interested in your thoughts of the company running it. I asked you about it in some thread (maybe this one) and saw you completed it recently.
Sorry if you’ve posted about it elsewhere, I had the shortest of looks!

also Albania is on my list, it looks great and is never shown as a place to go.

Highly recommended @randomshenans

That was my last leg of a 3-weeker around Greece, Macedonia and Albania a few years ago. Rented a car so we could get off the beaten track. Our stayovers were in Tirana, Berat, Gjirokastra, somewhere else I've now forgotten, and then a small guesthouse right outside Butrint (near Ksamil). Flew back to the UK from Corfu, via Sarande.

Very welcoming, cheap, some spectacular scenery and barely another tourist to be seen in the places we went to. If you enjoy history, it's a dream. Probably in my Top 3 holidays. Favourite place: Byllis, a ruined Illyrian settlement on the top of a mountain with commanding views of the surrounding region. 30 minutes up a gravel road to get to the site, took an hour to get down again due to the state of the road. Had the site to myself bar two German backpackers, bliss.

Copenhagen is a fantastic city.

Glad to hear it; I'm going on Thursday :D

Next up for me is a working rail trip.

Budapest first, overnight stay, then on to Arad in Romania, followed by a sleeper train to Bucharest, night out in Bucharest then a different sleeper train back to Budapest and then hop back to Vienna.

Dominican, Punta Cana in 2 weeks!

Heard good things, and not so good. Only one way to find out!

We were looking there before we changed to looking at Mexico. The flight days/times to the Dominican were rubbish- mid-week doesn’t suit one week school holidays :(
Let us know how it goes.

In 4 weeks I'm going back home to Austraya you ****

Actually its been 4 years since I've been back because of covid and havent seen my family since so can't wait!

I booked my holiday to Valencia and other areas back in early Jan 2020, having postponed twice due to covid. Now it seem surreal that in a fortnight's time, I will be there. Thought this holiday will never take place and never use my new passport which was renewed in March 2021.

As anyone else here had a holiday postponed from 2020 feel/felt like this?

I look forward to reading the posts about queues at the airport, delayed flights, lost luggage and food poisoning.

Only times I had FP is in UK. Caught from my late grandmother’s, who had no regards to hygiene. Then after a wedding, where 40 out of 70 guests fell ill. Turned out the source was some cooked meat used in canapés on the buffet. One reason I don’t go to weddings anymore. Plus they are so boring and time drags

anyone whose been recently is it really that bad in the airports??

It can vary from horrific to no problems at all - I think its got better recently. I've have both - thanks to Easyjet cancelling my flight at 1 hours notice and getting through check-in and security at Heathrow in about 3 minutes with BA.

Just booked 10 days in Austria and Slovakia for the Christmas to see family and friends. Can't wait to go to Vienna's Christmas markets and visit some of our favourite restaurants. Hopefully Manchester airport improves by then. Spent 2.5 hrs sitting on a plane when going to France earlier this year.

We're still thinking about going somewhere at the end of October/ beginning of November once the extension works is finished.

My best mate is coming over at the end of November to visit us and see the markets; they were on and then immediately off again last year due to Covid, so I'm hoping it will be a bit more stable this year.

So...may have a last minute trip to Paris in a couple of weeks, probably stay 4 nights.

Anyone have any hotel suggestions? I guess budget wise around £120 p/n.

A couple of weeks ago, but we did a reasonably large train trip around Europe. We effectively did it "door-to-door" as we live close to a local station so started our trip right here (near Liverpool). Did London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Frankfurt, Strasbourg, and Paris over 12 days. Very whistle-stop and tiring, but a great trip nonetheless! Our first holiday together ever despite being a couple since Sept 2019 :p
