Credit Card Recommendations

John Lewis are changing their Credit Card provider to NewDay. I like the new app and all, but it doesn't sync with my finance software, so I was wondering if I should get a Monzo or Revolut account.

I have a Barclaycard, but don't use it as it won't work through Google Pay. I think I have an MBNA CC somewhere...

What are the best options at the moment? Ideally with a decent app and the ability to link into Google Pay. I don't really have any need for a physical card.
 
I have a Newday card (Amazon Platinum) and it won't work through Apple pay. Not sure about Google.

They're about the end the partnership, so I will be on the lookout for a replacement cashback card - but I'm going to wait to see who the new partner is for Amazon before I go ahead with a change.

Some Amex cards are indeed the best for cashback - but it's such a faff when you find a retailer than doesn't accept them. I'd rather get slightly less with a Visa or Mastercard that you know is accepted everywhere.

Yeah, it works with Google Pay, just annoying I have to manually add transactions into my finance software. It's not a huge hassle, but did get me thinking if there was something better anyway.

I guess this would be my concern too.
 
I'm not sure what 'high rate' is these days. I think mine is about 19%? I know that used to be high, but these days... I assume things have gone up?
 
Unless your paying it off every month or using it for a 1off interest free purchase for a year and cutting it up.... Walk away and do not get one. Otherwise AMEX. Get a nice cashback at the end of year to pay for car tax or something.

We're the same, but I use the newsy as a backup for the odd place that doesn't take Amex (and obviously for any amazon orders). I'm going back to just a normal santander CC as it will only end up with a couple of hundred on it a month (Amex would then got upto 1300 or so for better cashback).
 
Providing your of fine financial mind get Amex. Had it for a number of years now and always walk away with a nice chunk of change at year end even after card fees. Its accepted nearly everywhere and I just use debit card when its not.

Need to be paying it off every month without fail though!

Yeah, I should have been clearer that my advice is based on running the card in such a way that you never incur a charge.
 
Does anyone know a lot about the Revolut Metal card? I'm struggling to understand it from their website.

Cost £12.99 a month - but gives 1% cashback, and also pays 1.35% interest. So is it a bank account with a debit card? Or just a credit card and somehow linked savings account?

I've got mine setup to DD the full amount. Annoyingly it's on the 26th (I'm trying to move everything to payday on the 28th but not everything can be moved).

If the rate is even slightly possible to be relevant to you - you shouldn't be getting a cashback card anyway. they only make sense if you never incur the interest rate in the first place. You probably only need one occurrence of not paying off in full in a 12 month period, and that's completely wiped out any profit from the cashback anyway.

Im on the free BA Amex now, however I did get the fee paying card and companion voucher about 5 years ago. I dont travel at all these days.

Do you fly with BA a lot and can use your card to book? If so, its a no brainer.
 
Amex here too, I feel like i am actually getting something back, however small by using it, vs Debit card, which I get nothing, or the basic Barclaycard.

Even the basic free BA Amex get you airmiles.
 
Ohh and AMEX customer service is the best i have ever used, everyone you talk to is on the ball and feels like they know the systems in place off by heart.

Thanks, the free one is the card I was looking at.

Work pay for the flights. Unfortunately there’s no way for me to pay for them and claim back, but everything else I can pay for.

Got back from Mexico City yesterday and my expense claim will be about £1200, so that’s a fair few points I’ve missed out on.
