Wouldn't that result in being kicked out of NATO ?

i have the feeling the US is pushing for a conflict in the aegean to smack the Turks, teach them a lesson or two...there are LOADS of US army personnel on greek soil, approaching 1960's numbers.

Presumably guarding against a weakening Erdogan who may flail erratically over his neo-Ottoman BS not coming true fast enough, but also to keep Serbia thinking twice about going after Kosovo.

Doubt it. The US needs Turkey to at least be fairly neutral in the russia Ukraine war.

They'll take turkey's side, and preach the importance of dialogue.

Well the Turks try to be fairly neutral but they have shown signs of defiance to the US dominance, hence they might want to punish them for being insolent. If not why are they unloading army on the borders with Turkey? The Turks are nervous with it, they dont mind getting smacked day in day out by the HAF, they dont like the yankees on their borders.

That's what you get with a mixing bowl of different cultures in a small area. East, meets West meets the Med.
the whole continent is like this, its not like the balkans are something special. Balkan people have a lot in common, far more than the French have with ze Germans and the British.

This may be of interest to some, I'm having dinner tomorrow with an old college mate who is from Russia and if anyone has any (polite) questions about the political situation in Russia both now and in the lead up to the invasion, the popularity of the war, how much people know, or Putin's popularity in general, or whatever, I'm sure he wouldn't mind answering a few (he's probably going to spend most of dinner ranting about it anyway haha). This dude grew up in in 80s/90s Russia before moving to the UK in 2002 (so no prizes for guessing his opinion of Putin lol) where he currently lives and works in the defence sector, and up until a few months ago he travelled back to Russia for a few days every month or two as he still has a lot of family/friends there so still has his finger on the pulse.

I have a question.

My understanding is that before the Russian invasion, there was actually quite a lot of free press in Russia and shortly after the invasion, it all got shut down, leaving just state controlled media spouting ridiculous propaganda. I've watched videos of calls from people who live in Ukraine with relatives in Russia or captured Russian soldiers calling home trying to tell people in Russia what's going on, and regardless of how close the relationship is, the people in Russia just don't believe their family and friends calling from Ukraine. They think they've been corrupted by nazis.

If the UK invaded France, then the next day, all independent media was shut down and it was just the BBC (yes, I know the BBC is independent) and the BBC started going on about France being controlled by evil nazis, whilst meanwhile virtually ever other country sided with France and most social media got shut down and a law was passed so we couldn't even call it a war, I'd like to think most people in the UK would not be taken in by it. I appreciate they can't protest without being jailed or worse, but it seems like most of them actually believe it all.

So my question to your friend would be, am I misunderstanding the situation and if I'm not, why are the majority of Russians so convinced what they're being told is true despite all the evidence to the contrary.
