Russia is faltering and the war has not gone as expected in their favour, many reasons for this ... Putins military is quite corrupt, high command are scared to report his failures to him for fear of being killed or poisoned, this is the harsh truth in Russia these days and we all know it.

So no, Putin is not entitled to ask UN for any favours at all, especially as Russia under Putin breaks every known Rule in the UN rule book.

IMHO: Putin likes to be seen as the wise Chessplayer in a very dangerous game, what we in the West are doing is calling his bluff, yes its a dangerous game as well, but what else can we do? We should never buckle down to terrorists demands and in IMHO, that is exactly what Putin is, a Terrorist, a sad old has been Dictator Mad man who knows time is short and has no care for anyone but himself and therefore has nothing to lose by playing his last lifes gasp card for his notoriety ... he would not have been the only dictator or mad man in history to do this.

Its really not that complicated, he's a Madman out of control and the sooner this mess ends without further escalation the better.

For many years Putin played a shrewd game on the international stage - events of late 2021 and 2022 are uncharacteristic compared to how he has operated in the past - maybe due to miscalculating based on faulty intelligence and the belief that they could replay Crimea 2014 over again, maybe due to feeling the pressure of time, age and/or health, but personally I don't think there is enough consideration that this is the same Putin and we aren't seeing the bigger picture whether relative to Ukraine or a wider play.

The build up to this invasion was a charade and while there is a lot of truths to the state of the Russian military I think somewhat they are playing a charade of desperation there and people are lapping it up because it is what they want to see and believe, maybe partly because it would indicate this might be over sooner rather than later - personally I'd be a lot more cautious to the longer term.

That said IMO Russia is at a crossroads and Putin's recent interactions with the likes of Iran and North Korea have been more about sounding out their allies and their level of support and backing will have huge implications IMO on Putin's decision making as to where this war is going.

Grim5, after reading your post, really not sure if you are trying to be Pro Russian, Pro Ukranian or just Neutral? Perhaps you want to be Neutral Factual? Oh I dunno mate, hate wars, really do. Should never have looked at this topic to be honest, but couldn't sleep.
Your hardware sig is cool, have an AMD 5950X and RTX3090 and related flight sim hardware too, thats my passion, just wish we could all get along, including Russia ... what a mess, what a complete mess and all over one idiots ego :( Why do we accept this as the Norm and resort to casual discussion about it, that should not be normal ... why cant we change this mess, turn it around?

Not entirely true
Curiously, the pipeline going through Ukraine is still pumping gas. In active military conflict zone.
It is up to germans to allow gas flow through Nordstream 2.
But it seems high gas prices benefit a certain party sending LNG across atlantic, so it won't happen. So much for energy independence

Just you plod on mate with your explosion vids with little to no substance explanation from yourself, what I will say though is ... just as this whole horrible conflict kicked off, have a very dear friend in Ukraine with lovely family whom shared same peacful same hobbys as mine, they never wanted this invasion and hate how forums like this glorify it with armchair dramtic explosion vids ... we are life long friends and in infrequent contact now, as far as I know on the move all the time, but we keep in touch, when this horrible mess is over, we vow to meet and share a Whisky.

Reading that post gave me amnesia by the time I had finished.
 
There is a fine line sometimes but I find it interesting how some people take such an exception to people showing an interest in the world around them. There was an accident recently in a town I commute through and was discussed on the local Facebook page and several people were chewing someone out (not me) for having followed the air ambulance helicopter on Flight Radar to see if it went. Doesn't mean they were uncaring about the unfortunate person(s) involved.

It seems the EU are now wanting the UK to embrace them again and join them in trying to acquire winter energy supplies. I hope Mrs. Truss remembers the vaccine debacle and tells them to go forth.

I wonder how long the EU citizens will tolerate matters before they decide it's every man for himself? The Czechs are demonstrating en masse already for them to make friends with Russia again.
