Kyiv Independent now reporting:

"Ukrainian intelligence: Russian occupiers begin leaving Crimea, southern Ukraine with their families. An “urgent evacuation” of Russian proxies, intelligence officers, and military commanders is taking place, the Main Intelligence Directorate said."

Denmark and Ukraine have entered into an agreement that Ukrainian soldiers will be trained in Denmark.
This is in addition to the 130 instructors Denmark is sending to Great Britain during the autumn to train Ukrainian soldiers there.

Number 6 engine shut down, it was circling to burn off fuel and landed safely after several hours.

I know they have been retrofitted again and again (hence we are on H versions now) but it's mad to me that a plane first developed in 1952 is still the mainstay of a nuclear bombing fleet.

Even the H model is using engines from the 1950's. No wonder it was so loud when I heard it recently.

I'm sure the internals are all hyper modern, but surely things have come a long way in 70 years?

Putin's Key Man in the Arctic Found Dead After Falling Overboard

Ivan Pechorin, 39, managing director of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, reportedly fell off a boat at full speed and died Saturday near Russky Island in the Sea of Japan in Primorsky Krai, Russia, near Vladivostock, about 5,800 miles east of Moscow.

Pechorin worked under Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Russian publication Komsomolskaya Pravda,

I'm not so sure it's people he considers treacherous or even as an example for others close to him who might be thinking of pushing him out of a window. It could honestly be regional resistance growing and possibly turning to outright insurgency in the future.

This is pretty crazy, Russia really has just burned through some of its best units... it's trashed the VDV and Naval Infantry, they're the elite light infantry units within the Russian military and now it seems that most of (what was left of, after their initial big losses) the 1st Guards Tank Army, a well-equipped unit that's supposed to protect Moscow, has basically been wiped out.

Surely there needs to be some sort of negotiated settlement eventually, or is that not possible after the way Putin has behaved thus far?
Personally no for me.
For one thing if Putin was to do a deal it means keeping some part of Ukraine, he isn't just going to walk away

Zelenski cant negotiate with Putin for this reason. Maybe if Putin is overthrown that could change and it might just happen, we never know.

Ukrain are also ahead now so they have the upper hand. Russia are low on supplies, armour and more importantly a willing army, the moral is through the floor.

if Russia had anything up it's sleeve it would have used it weeks ago, bottom line is Ukrains intelligence (with Nato help) was far greater than Russia's and it devastated their supplies.

Russia really is in a very poor position right now, maybe they will find help but it's not looking very good for them.

The thing to worry about with Russia now that they're actively pulling out of areas, is are they going to lob in a few chemical and/or biological warheads out of spite? We know they have no qualms about using such weapons, as evidenced by them using a nerve agent and murdering an innocent UK citizen in Salisbury.

They've been using both this entire conflict by the sounds of things and it's changed nothing.

It will be flying until 2050, although they could extend that further. And as mentioned, they've been wanting to replace the engines for a while, but haven't yet due to complications and funds. I was at the end of the runway behind one a few years ago when it took off, you don't get to see them take off though because as soon as they throttle up, there's just a massive cloud of black smoke that obscures it; very old engines.

Russia still has extensive stocks of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, etc. that it has not committed. What? Do you think they've left their borders undefended? Come on. Russia is getting humiliated in Ukraine, but let's not exaggerate just how threadbare their cupboard is.

And, yeah, throwing conscripts into Ukraine isn't going to win them the war. Probably there is nothing they can do to win this war. But that doesn't mean that it is over, Russia's occupying forces are going to collapse, and Ukraine is going to sweep across the remaining occupied territories in a matter of weeks. It's more likely that there months or years of fighting ahead.

Yeah, but the problem is always one of training and equipping them. All the stuff flooding in from the West is helping, but there are still reports of many units lacking basics like helmets, uniforms, and medical equipment.
I think you are giving them to much credit, they really are in trouble now. The tank battalion, the cream of the crop, the best they have which is tasked with defending Mosco and the kremlin is decimated. they threw them in and lost them.

having equipment is one thing having the right men in that equipment is another, and lets look at that equipment, is it fit for purpose? They started the war with equipment and armour falling apart, they are really in no position to fix anything now, all the best gear is already destroyed or captured.

Sanctions means they cant get parts, chips for missiles etc are in very short supply so that makes it even harder.

Bridges blown up and HIMARS waiting for targets makes it very difficult to get men and equipment into Ukrain now.

I can see Zelenski keeping all these routes permanently closed for a long time. He certainly never going to allow them to amass on the border again.

They will have years to amass a lot of artillery like HIMARS to get the borders safe as it will take years for Russia to recover from this.

Being on a boat he couldn't partake in the new sport of parachute-less base jumping so decided to try body surfing.

Pretty sure when I was active in the thread in some time ago Rroff or someone similar kept saying Russian hadn't sent it's best and wasn't using it's best equipment.
