This is what a true leader looks like. He inspires his people. Ukrainian politics are not perfect by any stretch, but it really is impressive
It's horses for courses isn't it. Like Churchill was the man required to get us through the war but was pretty poor by all other measures (from what I understand). I wonder if Zelensky was a pretty poor peace time PM but has really knocked it out of the park in war time.

I don't really know why Russia is so annoyed at Ukraine, specifically, for wanting to join NATO.

It's gaslighting bully text book 101.

Russia.. We don't want our neighbours to ally so we're going to kick the butt's out of one of them as a warning to others.

All russias neighbours... Damn we better form /join a defensive coalition.

RUSSIA... WHY IS EVERYONE BEING SO AGRESSIVE?

Funny how Russia is playing the NATO card again when they already admitted a few months ago they didn't give a damn about NATO and would have invaded with or without it.

I don't think they're so much annoyed about NATO as annoyed about Ukraine adopting a west-facing position.

Russia is an absolute droppings-show of a country when it could, and arguable should, have become a decently prosperous, successful, Eastern European nation such as Poland or Czechia but with all the extra benefits their enormous reserves of natural resources could bring. Instead, under Yeltsin and then Putin the country turned into a kleptocratic state with a chosen few (e.g. Abramovich, etc.) allowed to plunder billions from the Russian people, and a once great country still has a quarter of its population without indoor toilets.

Ukraine, with a large Russian speaking population and many family ties with Russia, is uniquely placed to put these failures into stark contrast. If Ukraine builds itself into a prosperous democracy on Russia's doorstep then it becomes very hard for people in Russia to ignore.

Have always thought the NATO argument was just an excuse.

Having visited Ukraine frequently since 2014, you could see money was being pumped into the country. It seemed to be ramped up in recent years - the building burnt out in Independance Square was rebuilt, the multi story car park at Borispol airport had not been touched ever since I've started going, and then it was finished. The new railway line to Borispol was completed.

There were issues of course. Imported goods were expensive - the Lego store was more expensive than here for example. Lots of people in the malls but not lots of shopping bags. It often looked like as Ukraine took a few steps foward, the old ways (corruption, self interest high up) dragged it back a step. But in the main, you could see they were prospering - and will do again.

Its the same story for Poland since the turn of the century. Massive investment and much more "western"

Despite the huge agency Ukraine has in this fight, they have a huge agricultural industry that Russia would love to get it's hands on..
That is in no one's interest apart from Russia.. They use gas supplies as blackmail currently, they'd do the same with agricultural goods if they took Ukraine.

And then they would still continue their expansionism programme further in the future.

This is why Russia will never be allowed to win in Ukraine.

Putin must have been drunk when he thought this illegal invasion was a good idea.

There's only 2 ways this will end..

1. A complete withdrawal on Russias part, including Crimea.

2. Global nuclear warfare. Caviat.. Are Russian nukes even functional?

Either way Russia is done for.

Yeah I said the same sort of thing a while back, between Ukraine and Russia you basically control the grain markets.

Then Russia has both that and gas supply, and the next time it's shot to bits.

I think we will keep piling in support to Ukraine to prevent this, and there is no way Russia can win by conventional means anymore.

I think its more lots of untapped gas fields in Ukraine.
