They've been illegally invaded for a start.
Yes there is a fear of Russian expaninonism beyond this, as all know Putin cannot be trusted.

It will definatley be worse for everyone if putin is allowed to continue.

Something which completely undermines the entire article - the negotiated settlement in the early days, as was mentioned not many posts back, was torpedoed by Putin, not Boris or the West/US ( https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-...by-his-aide-2022-09-14/?utm_source=reddit.com ).

And as the article says though the US floated Ukraine becoming part of NATO they didn't take up the offer(s), even with the appointment of a more US friendly leader it was only in response to Russian aggression which pushed Ukraine towards closer ties with NATO.
