I can't verify how true this is but someone 'leaked' the maintenance report on for the former flagship Moskva

LINK (English Translation) - This paints a sorry picture for the Russian Navy, here are some of the highlights:

  • Several of the ships engines were past their service date by 10,000 hours and could only be turned on with permission from the Admiral meaning the ship was locked at half speed in emergencies
  • Control systems either didn't work or did not have an indicator light to tell people on the bridge there was a problem
  • Steering gear was partly jammed and could only turn at 20 degrees
  • None of all the missile systems worked at the time when the ship was struck
  • Short range air to sea launchers didn't work
  • Of the 6 Phalanx interception systems (chain-guns) only 1 worked the rest were used for spare parts
  • The radar system that controlled the S300 interfered with the communication system and was turned off (even when turned on it had problems locking onto targets)
  • The 2 130mm cannons had a hydraulics leak and didn't work
  • Some of the water tight doors weren't water tight and some were wedged open
  • Only 50/500 fire extinguishers onboard
  • Safety equipment locked away in storage due to constant theft which only the Admiral had the key too

That ship died from Russian hubris and neglect, the Neptune missiles fired by Ukraine was the match that lit the fuel but given what we have seen from the rest of Russian equipment it shouldn't really be a surprise.

AHH that would make sense given the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery is considered highly dangerous.

I used to play on the shore near it when I was a kid. I had no idea that the sunken ship clearly visible across the mud at low tide contained a couple of kilotons of explosives. More recently, I was talking with someone who was one of the divers on one of the earlier assessments on how to deal with it safely (with the answer being "no known way", as it still is).

Looks like Russia is pulling a bunch of export spec T-90 out of storage, so far indications seem to be they are likely to be used to reinforce Crimea - suggesting Russia expects Kherson region to fall.
They would probably be better off giving up Kherson and just defend against any attempted river crossings instead of trying to get their own river crossings

I think its more lots of untapped gas fields in Ukraine.

Especially in the southeast. I doubt if it's a coincidence that's the part that Putin wants most of all.

The pipelines would be a third reason. Some major pipelines from Russia to Europe run through Ukraine.

The Russian empire is looking weaker by the day

* Failing Ukraine invasion.

* Collapsing economy and budget deficits which is now leading to Cutting military and social service spending.

* usually staunch ally, China, saying today that it has concerns about Russia.

* Russian version of NATO is collapsing and Russian has once again failed to uphold a treaty when this week it formally refused to send help for Armenia to defend itself. Khazakstan is also leaving the alliance - and Russia's Medvedev today threatened invading Kazakhstan next for this.

* Turkey is taking advantage, and this week said it will continue to support Azerbaijan with weapons to attack Armenia.

* Georgians are thinking of attacking Russia to regain its own annexed territory.

* Transnitria looking very vulnerable to Maldova and Romania coming in and ending that abomination.

* Russian global influence narrowing as it withdraws troops across the globe and Russian ally, Syria, is looking quite weak against Israel and recently Israel has launched bombing runs against Syria, with more likely coming.

Getting wild in the world. If Russia actually declare war, I wonder what will happen with NATO. Absolutely astonishing what a cluster mess this has been for Russia.

The state message seems to be more war and more destruction of infrastructure, I think the people will demand more war too, because seeing Russia humiliated with defeat is far worse to them than just giving up

I watched much of this. They're openly talking about attacking civilians and civilian infrastructure. We know they've done this anyway but now they're saying the quiet part out loud. It sounds like an open call to genocide, which could mean something as extreme as a 'tactical' nuke.

Maybe, but I would imagine that they believe in the future they will be winning and don't want to give up their beachead. It's a pity that Ukraine didn't demolish the bridges before they lost the city at the start of the war.

Kherson probably helps Ukraine more than Russia right now, it's a constant drain on their logistics and a trap that Russia are stuck in.

Retreat from it means giving it up and looking bad. Keeping it means constant issues resupplying and risk of being cut off.

Yep. It’s a Severodonetsk in reverse. Political considerations over riding military logic. Fighting with a big river at your back isn’t a good idea.

Can’t believe Russia hasn’t mobilised yet. Either take the war seriously and try and win… or admit defeat.

Maybe Putin knows it will be an unpopular decision and would cost him power. Equally if he loses he war then he will be out of power. Perhaps he has no choice but to keep pushing on as he is, hoping to get to winter and somehow turn it around, just to remain in power.

So that's targeted at resource rich countries such as Africa. Nothing is for free. The EU have not been vocal in helping African states, however given the local politicians will go with the bigger backhand and the EU does less of that from an anti-corruption standpoint.. I suspect that Africa will loose it's control over port access and resource mining. The west would then loose access ti uranium, lithium, copper etc.

Couple that with Ukrainian grain "gifts" by Russia, they attempting to increase BRICS influence into the rest of Africa. The same is true for the other countries around Iran, and on the Russian boarders.
