I can't verify how true this is but someone 'leaked' the maintenance report on for the former flagship Moskva
LINK (English Translation) - This paints a sorry picture for the Russian Navy, here are some of the highlights:
That ship died from Russian hubris and neglect, the Neptune missiles fired by Ukraine was the match that lit the fuel but given what we have seen from the rest of Russian equipment it shouldn't really be a surprise.
LINK (English Translation) - This paints a sorry picture for the Russian Navy, here are some of the highlights:
- Several of the ships engines were past their service date by 10,000 hours and could only be turned on with permission from the Admiral meaning the ship was locked at half speed in emergencies
- Control systems either didn't work or did not have an indicator light to tell people on the bridge there was a problem
- Steering gear was partly jammed and could only turn at 20 degrees
- None of all the missile systems worked at the time when the ship was struck
- Short range air to sea launchers didn't work
- Of the 6 Phalanx interception systems (chain-guns) only 1 worked the rest were used for spare parts
- The radar system that controlled the S300 interfered with the communication system and was turned off (even when turned on it had problems locking onto targets)
- The 2 130mm cannons had a hydraulics leak and didn't work
- Some of the water tight doors weren't water tight and some were wedged open
- Only 50/500 fire extinguishers onboard
- Safety equipment locked away in storage due to constant theft which only the Admiral had the key too
