In an interview today, Biden, when asked about the potential of Putin using a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine: "No, don't, don't, don't, you'll change the face of war like WW2."

When asked how he would respond: "You think I would tell you how we'd respond? Of course I'm not going to tell you, but I will tell you it will be consequential"

Using any form of nuclear weapons would make the situation with Iran rather binary (certainly for Israel who will force the issue) and it would enrage Beijing by making a (further) mess of any plans they may have had. NATO would undoubtedly grow as I can't see Austria keeping with it's flawed neutrality after such an event, even Switzerland is likely to at the very least loosen it's export rules on weapons whilst further limiting access from said country. It would depower all of the Kremlin's populist parties across Europe since even the lethargic middle-ground will now be extremely guarded and unwilling to even think of appeasement let alone pursue it. Any incentive to stay out of Ukraine would also disappear.

I see very little benefit to any of that.

Their nuclear programme is probably as aged as their navy. I'd be more cautious of an out of date packet of fireworks.
 
Rather chaotic flight patterns with the presidential fleet as Putin returns to Russia - thinking is he is getting paranoid someone might attempt to bump him off and can't trust his security.


Surprised he left the country for a meeting at all if that is his concerns - wouldn't look good for his image or relationships with important partners however to be absent.

Well the military has form considering the abortive coup attempt in 1991, the risk of a rogue officer launching missiles or intercepting the flight with aircraft is growing.

It's a message for the Russian people 'look Russia is still strong'. He knows the west isn't going to buy into anything he says.

Indeed. Wouldn't be amazing if the regime was overthrown and all the records of western politicians that have been paid off leaked. There would likely be a fair few MPs and MEPs looking at answering some very serious questions. As for members of the Republican Party, its could be a fairly decent fraction of them.
