Yeah I'm not against it, let's be honest it's not much compared to our overall debt.

Just annoyed why other countries are spending so little?
Yeah it's a shame that some countries haven't helped more can only hope the good example we've set is followed... Domestic politics are probably a bit difficult for some of them I think, plus some umming and ahhing before the gas supply situation crystallised maybe...

Looking at the numbers by GDP we are near the top end, but still below the baltics, poland, and Norway.

Germany looks pretty poor on that list (also the stories about it taking them so long to actually ship over the military aid they say they're sending...), but then looking at the numbers of refugees adds another dimension:
Germany has taken about 5x as many as us, which should probably count for something...

Hope that some of the lower givers buck up a bit, but I think so far the UK can be proud for leading the way a bit and setting a good example, which is nice for once! Hope we keep it up and if anything expand the aid :)

...
That's one way to prevent people protesting if word gets around that you get drafted if arrested
Might be a good deterrent to protesting, but at the same time a way of making absolutely sure that morale in your new units of conscripts is absolutely rock bottom with zero commitment to the cause if you stuff then full of protestors :p

Protesting seems like a far less expensive way to get out of Russia at the moment. Surely, this will lead to more grief for Putin, those being forced to fight will just likely surrender in Ukraine and make Russia look even worse than now.

We're not necessarily buying things to give to them though. We're giving them stuff we have in most cases and if it's stuff we don't then replace, it hasn't really cost anything.

A lot if the stuff a lot of countries have donated are things that they'd already taken out of service previously but still had.

There's tons of stuff like that sitting around in storage in Western countries that Ukraine could use.
Not entirely true, I believe some nations were beginning to run out on stuff like Stingers, Javelins and NLAWS so instead of sending their own stock, they were just buying new stock and sending that to Ukraine which has created its own issues in the supply chain

These protests are so weak. Do they not realise they are screwed either way?

You gotta go hard in Russia to affect change and it will be much easier to kill a Russian policeman than be arrested and forced to fight well equipped and battle hardened Ukrainian soldiers.

Like good little serfs they allow themselves to be taken away and only waited this long as they bowed their heads for months until their turn came. They need to attack the police like is happening in Iran.

Maybe not for a few months.. But what's he gonna come out to?
I suspect with the demonstration in ukraine, Putin may have second thoughts about deep tunnels in hillsides and the quality of russian door technology.

China research has basically said bunkers are a deathtap with today’s technology compared to the 50s and 60s.

Their best chance of survival would be to surrender asap, but they have to avoid being killed first. I see the richer Russians have all made a bolt for the border.

35km and growing queue of Russians trying to escape to Finland

They better hurry cause Finland's foreign minister just announced they are about to close the border to Russia

There are a lot of people in T shirts and shorts given it's mid September there, looks dodgy to me. But it's Twitter, so must be right....

Correct, bunkers will not last in the long term for many reasons. People end up having a pretty gruelling death in bunkers.
