Since any Gas extracted via Fracking will just get sold on the open market.

No benefit. Our shale gas stores are in fractured patchy deposits, nothing like the huge flats they have over in the US. We simply dont get the same economies of scale.

I actually did an IT job for Cuadrilla about 10 years ago and realised how toxic their ambitions were.

Fracking has been frowned upon for years? That's why it's banned/restricted currently isn't it? This isn't a recent thing.
