Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Not sure how automated the winter fuel payment and supplementary £300 are for older folks - least ways the 80+ neighbours did not seem fully aware of it,
have not looked up what percentage of households aren't claimed.
The vast majority don't need to claim the Winter Fuel Payment. From your link:

You usually do not need to claim Winter Fuel Payment - you’ll get it automatically if you’re eligible.

If you have not got a Winter Fuel Payment before, you only need to claim if any of the following apply:
  • you do not get benefits or the State Pension
  • the only benefit you get is Adult Disability Payment from the Scottish Government, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit
  • you live in Switzerland or an EEA country
If you have got a Winter Fuel Payment before, you only need to claim if since your last payment you have either:
  • deferred your State Pension
  • moved to Switzerland or an EEA country
Likewise the Pensioner Cost of Living payment.

If you’re entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2022 to 2023, you will get an extra £300 for your household paid with your normal payment from November 2022.

Fixed (Next Online v17 with an OX postcode), which started on 24th September. I asked them last week and then again today whether they could tell me what my fix would change to on 1st October, but apparently they still don't know! When I asked what the variable rate would be from now until 30th September they quoted 52.07p/kwh for elec (with a 44.41p standing charge) and 14.88p/kwh for gas (with a 28.48p standing charge), which is above the current Ofgem cap...
Are you OX7 or OX 15/16 if so i believe thats MPAN area 14. The problem with those quoted prices is they are what the prices would have been if the EPG Cap wasnt coming in and unfortunately due to the issues they are having with getting the new pricing in and all the fixed rates to be adjusted its not showing the correct prices for the 1st Oct SVT. I can check the SVT for you as it is viewable internally now. Regarding the situation if you Elec would be reduced when your gas is under but the elec is over the cap I can ask one of the pricing leads tomorrow to see what clarification there is.

They are scrambling and hassling IT all day everyday though at the moment to get the pricing in as its failed twice now

Spotted my desk setup uses 62w, and my TV/virgin box/Xbox etc 85w while on standby. Yes I could turn them off manually but I won't ever do it, so I've stuck them on a timer overnight for 6/12 hours. @35p/kWh this simple change should save around £210/year. Hopefully it's not by dodgy maths but this seems like a no brainer!

Thanks, appreciate the help. I’m in OX29 (Witney).

Haven't Octopus set a president on fixed contracts will be unchanged ... but, you are at liberty to change to a SVR if you like.
No idea as they not communicating on it.

Just a vague statement of "no one will lose out". Which could be as simple as you will have the chance to move to SVR.

Woke up this morning to the news my energy DD is going down, from £174 a month to £107. Although good news at the moment (as is any reduction in outgoings) I'm going to raise it back up as if I don't have a rise in bills it'll be a little buffer to come back but for some reason I don't think over the winter my bills will be coming down.

I'm a peasant with a PAYG key meter from EON and I've got my new charges today.

54.18 per day SC
32.76 kWh

I should be getting vouchers for the next 6 months which will cover me entirely without having to use my own cash to top up. I just need to ignore all news until April. :p
I'm with crappy PAYG also E.on Next
Standing charge (per day) 53.823p -=> 54.968p
Unit rate (per kWh) 26.859p -=> 31.301p

They'll be going down by about £67 a month. Where have you been.

£1.23p for 24hours at standby. You'll save 5p for every hour you turn it off properly.

In fairness to Octopus they have stated they have had to reduce it by the amount as per the guidelines to get the funding but you can put it back up with them to build a buffer. If with someone else would assume it is the same then.

That's exactly what I've done and we keep them off for about 15 hours a day. Every little helps and the £10 smart plug cost is recovered in the first month of using it! We've been using them since about April or so which is quite some saving!

I've not noticed any issues with the Sky box either so it must just update when it gets turned on anyway!

Why would it be going down by that when it hasn't risen at all?

It went up to £174 about a year and a half ago and hasn't risen since, I was expecting it to rise as about 2 months ago I came out of my fixed tariff and didn't re-fix as I'm not sure I'm going to stay with my current provider.

They are still messaging people but they have updated their blog to explain that the Go rate will be discounted down. https://octopus.energy/blog/how-the-energy-price-guarantee-works/

I can't see anything about Go on that link?

Not sure where you're getting that from? As per the link @delta0 posted, they are reducing fixes in line with the govt. discounts

EPG SVT for OX29 should be 34.23 elec 44.41 sc and 10.46 gas 28.48 sc. I've put the question out there as to whats happening with the fixed tarrif reductions and when they will show on customer accounts as currently its not showing due to the issues i mentioned before

They mention fixed rates which is what Go is. They are sending out specific details very soon according to their Twitter.

Why would it be going down by that when it hasn't risen at all?
Because the government £400 help is being "paid" over 6 months, so equivalent to £67/month. Energy suppliers are knocking this off customers' Direct Debits to effectively pass on the help.
