Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

I had my revised energy bill from eon next SVR and its gone from £212.00 pcm £254.87 (£321.87 before the gov discount applied). I'm £950 in credit!

I've check it today and it now has two dd's one for the £254.87 commencing from the 6/10/22 and also one for £145.00 commencing 01/10/22

Has anyone on eon next flex tarrif had the same 2 DD payment figures on their account?

It's dd adjustment taking into account £400 from gov for the next 6 months.

Got the usual email from Octopus advising my DD is due soon, and they do explain the reduced amount due to the £400 support.

5 days to go and still no word on the Go & Tracker pricing though...

Fair enough if its in that email. I dont have a notification yet as mine goes out on the 15th.

Labour ... no discussion on storage of all this wind power they'll generate , some attempt to make ev's more viable for private buyer

I've got no issue with wanting to build nationally owned electricity generation infrastructure. I probably would support some form of nationalisation for the electricity generation industry. But pretending that 52GW of wind is the answer without grid scale storage is myopic.

In another thread I pointed out a number of occasions last winter when wind supply dropped and the grid was put under pressure. One example saw wind drop from 80% rated capacity to 10% rated capacity in 8 hours across the whole of UK and it stayed low for a few days. If Labour's plan were followed days like that would see a drop from 42GW to 5GW that around 37GW drop that's more than all the currently installed gas and coal stations combined. Creating battery storage that could provide multi-day coverage for that is an absurdly large task. Where are you going to get that many batteries from (including raw materials) in the time scale Labour proposes? Utter madness. Hydrogen might be scaleable in that time frame but no one has ever built a major hydrogen plant for electricity storage to the best of my knowledge.

Instead of proposing headline grabbing nonsense it would be nice to see achievable road maps offered up.

I drive behind an electric bus that must have been charged at Yardley Wood bus depot going to Solihull most mornings. EV buses are already here.
Swiss had electric buses since 60years
They don't have to stick to electrified roads either, they can detach and reattach whilst in motion, usually only parts of the route have cables for charging

I'm a peasant with a PAYG key meter from EON and I've got my new charges today.

54.18 per day SC
32.76 kWh

I should be getting vouchers for the next 6 months which will cover me entirely without having to use my own cash to top up. I just need to ignore all news until April. :p

Me too, my fix rate gas is cheaper but my electric seems dearer then the incoming new cap. Would like to know if there going to change anything or just keep me on the fix.
I can put some feelers out for you tomorrow with one of the pricing leads if you want. The problems they're having at the moment is getting the new pricing into the system as its a proving to be a pig and they share some of the IT guys with Ocotpus as both companies use the same account and customer service platform/software as EonNext licensed it from Octopus so the IT techs are swamped trying to get all the alterations in.

Side note and semi on topic.

Dont forget to check on the elderly and vulnerable around you to see if they need any help sorting out their gas and elec or if they need help understanding any of it.

I've been managing my dads for a while now as its one less thing for him to worry about and he was never really good keeping on top of it all as it frustrated him. I've also this morning been helping my 80yr old neighbour with his too. He's got lung cancer and is obviously have a **** time and he tried to get his head around his energy bills and make sure he was in a good position for the winter especially but he was getting frustrated and upset so he asked me for help knowing i work in the industry. I've got him all sorted out and hes in a good position going forward and i've offered to help him and his missus manage their energy accounts to take some worry fo their mind as they were both hopelessly getting it wrapped around them and they have more important things to worry about with his cancer.

Needless to say look out for those around you as well as yourselves. Currently i'm dealing with issues with my own fathers wellbeing, my own temporary health and then speaking with my bed ridden neighbour today, helping him out with his bills, listening to him talk about his prognosis and seeing him get upset has kinda broken me today :(

Sorry to hear that mate, and well done for being there for them both. Your neighbour probably needed someone to talk to, is he on his own?

Hes got his wife and they are the loveliest old couple. Hes 80 and shes 81, married for 61 years he was telling me today. He usually deals with all the bills and utilities but hes whacked out on morphine and obviously his heads not in the right place and his wife just doesnt understand it all plus shes trying to take care of her husband to the best of her ability. Talking to him today it sounds like hes got a reasonable support network but the energy bill stuff was getting to him and he was getting frustrated because it wouldnt sink in so he rang me at 8am (i was still asleep as its my day off lol) asking if i would help him, so i popped around sorted his energy bills and his direct debit out with his supplier for him and spent a few hours chatting with him.

I just feel really sorry for him as hes in a bad way and the prognosis isnt good and that on top of other things has kinda made me feel a bit broken today so if anything i just wanted to put a reminder out there for people to keep an eye out and help neighbours and friends & family where they can and not assume everyone understands everything to the same level as you may. From speaking with him he didn't know about the EPG price cap or the £400 gov support and how it would effect him.

It's ok, thanks for the update.

The energy company should have some special consideration for people in extremely poor health like that. Only one I can remember is Octopus discounting standing charges to zero for 100k people. Possibly the local council might do something, he could discuss it with the CAB in theory.

Someone whose a master at this kind of thing could create a big pool of water at least 6 feet off the ground, build a siphon into the drain for the said pool with a 6 foot drop into a siphon arrangement that will create a lot of power. With enough water you have power for 20 hours you dont have the cheap power, pump the water from the lower pool to the higher pool in the 4 hours that multi kilowatt pumps would be cheap to operate and then benefit the rest of the time from the power generated. I havent done the maths but with space and skill to setup its surely possible, most setups Ive heard of involve a river but most dont have access.

Not sure how automated the winter fuel payment and supplementary £300 are for older folks - least ways the 80+ neighbours did not seem fully aware of it,
have not looked up what percentage of households aren't claimed.

God help us if milliband is the brains behind this.
yes he was interviewed on c4 (with the new grey hair look) - disaster.
meanwhile Burnham seems to be saying he is staying on as mayor for a 3rd term - so stuck with keir too.

You on variable or fixed?
Fixed (Next Online v17 with an OX postcode), which started on 24th September. I asked them last week and then again today whether they could tell me what my fix would change to on 1st October, but apparently they still don't know! When I asked what the variable rate would be from now until 30th September they quoted 52.07p/kwh for elec (with a 44.41p standing charge) and 14.88p/kwh for gas (with a 28.48p standing charge), which is above the current Ofgem cap...
