It's pretty obvious that whoever did this didn't want it to be known who it was that did it! To me that rules out the USA. If it was ever discovered that they did it then all hell would break loose. Too risky. I am sure that the USA would use sanctions and more open threats!! It's far more likely that this is Putin wanting to blame it on the USA but in fact he would be the one to benefit - he wants to keep gas prices high, and what better way to do that then create gas shortages in Europe?

But they were already not shipping gas to europe via them, so I think it's more likely to be sending a message that the pipelines aren't safe underwater in case of full scale war.

Think about what you're saying.
Why would Putin/Russia do it? They have a tap at their end. They can just turn it off.
All this as done is make sure Russia can't use the pipeline after this is over.
Gazprom has to pay fines for not providing gas according to the agreement. Therefore bomb the pipe to not pay for it and blame someone else.

There was another guy "Sanctioned Ivan" on tube and has not posted any videos for over a week.
They all head out of the country thinking it is going to finish relatively quick.
There are too many motives involved to know who did it, but that said there is now a convenient entry point for giving Russia a gift of unknown origin.
Kind of odd configuration today - not very usual to see 2x Rivet Joints operating like that around the Black Sea region - they did turn around the RQ-4 that was on its way home from the Black Sea last night for a few extra hours for some reason so possibly maxed out the ability to cover the needed roles with other aircraft.
Probably more intelligence lead requirement though.

That's what I thought.
This is actually worse for Russia as they now can't play on/off at their end.
It also removes the opportunity for backsliding from sanctions partners, in the event gas prices cause serious economic damage, in the near future.
