How does this entire conflict get resolved? Only way I can see it is if he gets some land. Stops. We let him have his "contested land".

He has his win. Cold War is in effect. Ukraine is partly sacrificed. Nuclear war averted.
Its then explicit what happens if any more fighting happens.

Most of Russia already live in poverty, a lot of them don't have indoor toilets. There's probably not much change for them really. It's the cities where the trouble is, which is why the police are cracking down heavily on dissent, and anyone daring to protest is likely to find themselves on the way to the front with a badly fitting uniform , a rusty AK47, and a tampon.
