I don’t see NATO going nuclear if Russia drop it on Ukraine. It will escalate in a different way.

I don't think it will be. Because it would be game over. We all know it. Putin probably knows it. He's probably vile enough to do it.
 
Putin may be mad enough to do it, but are all the generals and officials down the chain? Would the order to launch actually be carried out?

I don't think if putin called for this we would be here. So I do think it's one man. He has the decision.

However he got there. And for whatever reason he's been there that long.. Its still his decision. His call

I would imagine if they didn't they would be shot and replacements brought in.

Putin plans everything in advance.

He will have set it up so that it will. It only takes one warhead to start it, he's in a position to bypass normal command structures for one warhead.

I don't either. However, it would be a Budapest Memorandum violation by Russia which the USA and UK could not ignore. That would lead to US/UK forces fighting Russian forces in Ukraine which would not necessarily lead to World War 3 or action by other NATO members. However, if allied forces in Ukraine were then attacked by Russia with tactical nuclear weapons then NATO would have no choice but to respond with tactical nukes in a like-for-like manner. Whether or not the Russians then continue using tactical nukes or escalate to using strategic nukes would be up to them, but in either case we would respond likewise.

If there is any use of tactical nuclear weapons, all bets are off. The rules change at that point, regardless of the moral dimension.

As horrible as it is to say, that would focus minds solely on escalation.
