It's not what is fair, but then if it actually came down to Ukraine losing some territory versus nuclear weapons being used then I think I know which was I'd rather it went

Russia won't stop at 'some' territory, that is the problem.

The only 'diplomatic' solution that is at all tenable is Ukraine gives up that territory for immediate ascension into NATO, thereby preventing Russia from ever trying this stunt again.

A nuclear attack on Ukraine is not an attack on a NATO member, so IMHO odds are NATO would either go around targeting Russian assets outside of Russia i.e. sinking Russian ships, or by putting NATO troops into Ukraine.

The general plan is to chip away at Russia till it collapses with minimal collateral damage, I imagine any response will be inline with the current methodology.

Great that the US has a president with a backbone again unlike 45 who just kissed Putin's arse.
 
I believe that Biden with Nato have already laid the option in response to a first strike by Russia. It is not nuclear but would be massive on Russian interests in the world. Nobody is saying but Russia did calm a bit since Putins first outburst and Lavrov has criticised talk of nuclear escalation. They would be hit hard in a conventional manner first and the US has the means.
 
I just can't see Putin/Russia using a nuke. They might claim its part of their doctrine but they also claimed their military was formidable. It would be an act that would make them a pariah for years to come. The whole world would rally around, no one would trade with them for fear of the backlash.
 
The announcement of the territory annexation was no surprise, but Putin spoke like a mad man. Almost the inverse of what we believe to be true. Almost crashed my car when he started referencing the 17th century.

Putin: The West denies moral standards, religion, family. Do we really want Russia to have “parent number one, two, three” instead of “mom and dad” and that perversions that lead to degradation and extinction are imposed on children in schools, supposedly there are some genders, except for women and men? For us, this is unacceptable.

What an absolute Monster this man is.

All we have is the belief / hope Putin won't. Nobody really knows where this will end. I'd like to think with him falling out of a 5th floor window.

Those heroes forced to fight when conscripted.
The sacrifice of the men that didn't even want to be there, and a lot who didn't even know where they were.

Yeah a man who invades a country, murders its citizens, kidnaps its children and steals its territory. Oh and used chemical weapons in Syria. Go and have a word with yourself, you're just embarrassing yourself.
