How do you plan on buying a 4000 GPU? (if you plan at all)

Just to order. I'd of otherwise been at work and I thought about having multiple windows open, the bank possibly having to confirm the purchase etc, stock going on sale early etc. Reviews only coming out for partners the same day (FE day before).

"Just" the afternoon though lol.

I'm WFH, but will be ordering in my lunch break. Have my payment card added to the FE store and OCUK ready (google pay) and banking app on phone to authorise the purchase.

I don't think there'll be a major issue getting a card, as long as you're prepared to pay £2k. FE cards for £1679 will be the golden ticket, though how many will be in stock is a complete unknown at this stage.

Yeah for 2k I'd be expecting something like the Suprim that's 300 extra just for the cooling, RGB and slight over clock.

Hoping for FE or basic Zotac at £1679 or Gaming Trio at £1800.

I kinda want one but the depreciation terrifies me, imagine when AMD hold their announcement event if the 4090 price suddenly drops 500$, of if in 2-3months time they are even just down a few hundred.

It's not like anything is coming out that will let the GPU shine anyway, you'll just be playing the same games you are now and probably at the same settings but with 300fps instead of 100 or whatever

I haven't decided if I'm going to get one - I have a 3090, after all - but if I do it will be a FE and not one of the hyper-priced cards.
Is there anything you cant play at the settings you like currently?

As I mentioned in a previous thread... im genuinely staggered by the amount of people planning to blind-buy 4090s, but the hardest of all to understand are those with 3090s.
Is it just a case of new shiny tech FOMO? Or are there actually any games that you cant run as youd like on a 3090?

You make it sound like the uplift is 20% or something. 4k 120fps is my gold standard, driving a 77inch OLED. :)

I wonder if I watched a different presentation than some of the other posters. Some people seem so excited.

I watched that presentation avoid raw performance metrics like the plague and have been like this ever since:

Other people, who I presumed saw the same presentation, sound like:

Raster games? No. RT games? More power is always good. 4k @ 120 Hz with RT on would be very nice.

I have no intention of buying blind. I'll be looking at the reviews and the leaks.
Still blind to rest of the market. At best you might know which 4090 to try get.
You have no idea what AMD is bringing, how the 4080 stacks, or even info once consumers get these cards in-hand.

Remember the issues with power on certain cards that came to light in the early weeks of 30 sieries?

Sure more power is good, but at these prices? Getting single digits of extra FPS at 4K for £2k? Maybe if you manage to sell 3090 for £600, still be a £1400 cost?

Are there really games where such small gains warrant such huuuge costs? Im genuinely curious. Right now, there isn't anything that doesn't run amazing on my 3090 @ 3840x1600. (so near 4K)
Infact... if sombody swapped a 4090 in my rig... Id be surprised if I could tell. (without looking in the case / drivers!)

Anyone took the day/afternoon off work? Please tell me I'm not the only one lol
everyday is a day off for me! i can't work because of illness, my DWP benefits are funding my 4090 :D
i think i'll be the lowest paid 4090 owner :D
(fingers crossed truss increases benefits by inflation)

Aren't you pre-judging? We don't know whether gains will be small or large. The reviews will tell us.
Oh indeed. But then Im not one of those planning to buy one of these day one.

Even if the gains where double-digit. My games all already run great. You can always have MORE power, MORE FPS. But at some point unless you are watching the FPS counter... you cant tell.
I cant imagine many/any gamers with 3090s are in a position where they would genuinely notice the upgrade? Some niche situations maybe?

I’m in the bracket where I would genuinely benefit from a 4090. A 3840x1600 144Hz monitor brings my 3090 to its knees if I allow the settings to be all maxed out. However, I can happily lower settings to accommodate that… BUT, this is the pc game isn’t it, we want our cake and we want to eat it!

Im running the exact same resolution, refresh rate and GPU... and Cyberpunk aside... I cant think of a single game where more FPS would be worth spending any money.
And even Cyberpunk... let Geforce Experience take care of the settings, and it looks great and runs good. Sure if you bring up the FPS counter it dips below 60... but once your playing its all good.

How do I plan to buy a 4000 series card? Wait for the 5000 series to be released, all the rich first-adopters will be selling their 4000 series cards, I'll pick up a 4090 on the used market.

In the meantime I'll be moving my 3080Ti from it's stock air cooler to custom loop watercooling to get a bit more performance out of it.

I don't think there is going to be a shortage at these prices, especially given the fact that more people are worried about food and heating right now. I'm waiting to see what AMD are doing and how that impacts price. Unless those prices come down I will not be buying at all.

Yes, I feel the same to be honest. I couldn’t justify the purchase. But I could also just as easily see me spending that cash if it was sat there. Value for money doesn’t always enter my mind when it comes to gaming.
