Why would a right wing voter vote for a left wing party?
Let’s not forget that Blair was Tory-lite to get in and Corbyn (supported by Starmer) was a left wing extremist and utterly rejected by the voters.
This isn’t a socialist country.
Trying to make out political choices are as binary as PS5 being better than Xbox is such a pathetic simplification.
He wasnt utterly rejected, that would mean he had only a few seats or none, and he did actually have a respectable popular vote count.
I think the two main contributors to his 2nd election vote drop were Brexit (too many voting on that and forgetting local policies), and the right wing media press machine. Finally there was quite a few who had a personal dislike of him and probably because of that didnt even have any interest in policies or what they thought was right for the country. One such person took part in the Keir thread and I posted a facts and myths link about corbyn but they didnt really respond to that article, once someone hates someone it usually sticks for life justified or not
There is claims of things like "electorate decides" and so forth but the reality is we have a dodgy election system and ignorant voting base who are easily manipulated (Brexit referendum is all the proof of that you need).
The last election where a Labour leader got more popular votes was Blair in 1997, yes he got more than Blair in 2001 and 2005 (and way more than Miliband and Brown) but Blair won his elections due to how the votes fell on FPTP.
A left wing extremist probably would be doing all of the following. Just to make you realise there is far more left than what Corbyn was.
Take land from land owners by force.
100% tax on inheritance tax.
Force closure of private schools.
Close all tax loop holes.
Top rate tax back to 1970s levels.
Take back all energy, royal mail, rail industry without paying for it.
Hard regulate rents.
Ban ownership of second homes.
All house building social only.
He moved hard left by his 2nd election (1st I would say he was moderate left), but not an extremist.
