Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Most of us no? I mean I only use my tablet to watch YT/Netflix etc on now and charge it at work. TV stays off completely because of costs etc. Heating never on. Lights basically never on, just use phone torch for light and charge that at office too.

What a way to live, 2022... It's not right, is it?

Storage for who, Europe? We have next to no storage in the UK...

Yes, europe generally is more able to stock up directly during the summer months than we are. We do have production as well of course.

The point was the expectation is that europe as a whole will likely have enough gas to get through to the spring. :)
But there isn't enough supply capacity to put them into the same position by next winter, and thats assuming some of the other bad factors don't happen as well!
So next winter is almost certainly going to be a worse position than this winter.
If they are basically low on supplies we are all going to fighting over the supply available come probably early 24.

Just had my second bill with the £66 discount. New gas combi is now working but only since the end of this billing period, so gas use is still zero in this bill. Leccy up from 171kwh to 244kwh. Only difference is tradesmen with big power tools for long periods. After subsidy applied, total combined charge £36.87. The gas heating will have to go on soon (currently 14c indoors and multifuel stove not coming until March, currently wearing base layer, t-shirt, two jumpers and a hat inside) but the leccy should drop back to 170ish next time.

Sometimes it can be an issue with the building like yours. Usually it’s due to people not ventilating or allowing the humidity to remain high. I’ve had it in a previous place where the previous people had not ventilated it properly. It took months to get rid of it. Had to run dehumidifiers and bleach the walls every few days. This was after we had removed all the paint, treated and repainted it. It gets engrained into the wall and can take a long time to get out once it’s in.

I have mould in corner of my bedroom, I examined the wall outside and is cracks so might be similar reasons to fez, my bedroom is the warmest room in my house. I also deliberately ventilate as much as I can as I value fresh air. However the windows are awful they dont let in much air, so typically to get air circulation I need to open my front door and hope its windy so it gets blown around my property.

I reported the cracks to my LL, the response was dont worry we can paint over it.

We had to soak tissues with bleach and leave them against the wall to eventually get it all out. It worked after 6 months and didn’t have any problems for the next 5 years we were there.

yes I've either applied anti-mold stuff via pump-spray or sponge onto surfaces in previous places ..
labouring the point but the case this week there was no technical/engineering report that was published by coroner ie.facts

with the 45% windfall tax on the (non-cfd) electricity generators , I'm expecting some feedthrough onto prices for contracts that aren't on the EPG rates/economy 7;
if they are paying more tax on the electricity they sell at peak rate, they'll increase price for cheap rate (<epg) kwh's. .. eg octopus go and TOU tarifs.

Someone ere ?
Seriously where do the gutter press find these numpties?

Head torches at £8.48 each, which need to be charged using electric.
One 12 Watt led will last over 83 hours for 1 kWh so 35p.
The cost of the 2 torches would have paid for 4,021 hours of light bulb usage or 670, 6 hour winter nights. And that's just for the parents, the sprogs have 2 as well.

If your electric bill is £320 a month, it's not the lights that are the problem unless you still have a ton of old incandescent bulbs. Some people just aren't fit to "Adult".

How are your YoY consumption figures looking? I've got figures back to 2020 and my usage for this autumn are a month later than 2020 and 2021.

E.g. the kWh I used in October 2022 matches my consumption in September 2021 and 2020; the November 2022 consumption is on track to be less than October 2021 or 2020.

Not sure how much of this is energy savings I've managed and how much is how warm its been. Anyone else seeing the same?

We stopped buying Russian gas and had to fill up from other sources. Plus we will have a year to get more gas ready for next winter. I would expect things to be much better next winter. If the war ends then it will be even better than expected.
Better aka not as bad as it now ? :D doubt we’ll ever get back to what we were at.

We stopped buying Russian gas in June 2022 and it was a tiny percentage even then 2%. We have been supplying Europe through the interconnecters at up to 75m cum per day this year. This may slow down if UK demand peaks in the winter. A combination of supply from the North Sea and gas shipped from UAE and possibly USA should see the UK through both this winter and next.

I don't see Russia reopening supply through 2023 at all.

So with this new Tory budget energy rates are going up another 20% in April (so 39.8p/kWh, elec 12p gas) but the £66 pm stops unless you get benefits

Yeah, I think he is going to be disappointed on his next bill if all he has done is turned off the lights and restricted TV usage.

The new EPG is barely below what would have been the ofgem October rate. I kind of remember it was predicted for SC to go back down during 2023, hoping thats true, my Agile tariff ends on 1 July 2023, as well as gas tracker late July.

Get better torches, we have a good thread on this forum. 1 torch pointed at the ceiling will light up the entire room if its a decent one even a cheapy one off amazon can do that for a while. If the torch is put on recharge on a cheap off peak rate, use a battery bank or whatever then I guess its a 'saving'. However LED bulbs really dont use much, it'll be somewhere else thats adding on their bill.
