Nvidia plans to launch a $400 4060 that's as fast as the 3070

Basically nvidia wants to give you the same performance as last gen at the same price points and if they give you more performance then they expect you to pay more.

I can't see AMD being much better now that the 7800XT has been renamed as the 7900XT as it'll mean the 7700XT becomes the 7800XT and that trend will continue down the stack so lower performance at a higher price point.

Yup, puzzling why people are only calling out nvidia here and not amd as well.... Wonder if there will be a thread for when the 7800xt 7700xt gets launched? :p People say it's because nvidia set the stage for amd to do this but reality is, they would have done it anyway.... Just see the CPU space now

All in all, for those with morals, it's looking like the best thing you can do is skip this gen from both amd and nvidia, after all, vote with your wallet.

On one hand, it sounds like it could be a reasonable card. On the other hand, it's 2/3 of a year away with a price tag that only looks good value if you compare to a 4080. Sod off Nvidia.

They are only calling Nvidia out because AMD have not arrived to the table yet

It was announced and is now being called a 7900XT.

How was it announced if they only announced the 7900XT and XTX? There is nothing stopping then still using NAVI 31 on a 7800XT that is yet to be announced. I guess this is people guessing that it will be NAVI 32 and think it is somehow comparable to the AD103 on the 4080, so a 4060, right?

This is exactly what's going to happen, if the 4080 had released at £800 then we would have got an 84CU 7800XT competitor at £700 but AMD have taken the opportunity to rebadge their line up which will mean a significant increase in prices on all but the top card.

I think you are confused, as the 6800Xt only has 72 CU's so why would they increase the CU count in the next gen RDNA3 product?

Why wouldn't they? I mean you're getting 16 CU's more at the same $999 price point.

I think there is every chance the 7800XT will have just 60 CUs which is a cut of 12.

How would you feel if AMD delivers this for $650-700

So you are just guessing then? And as previously mentioned there has been no official announcement with specs, so there is every chance the 7800 XT will have 72 CU's just like the 6800 XT had 72 CU's, and therefore it could be nothing like the AD103 non-sense that Nvidia have done with the xx80 class cards, right?

To be fair as long as you are not on Far Cry 6 or trying to push RT in titles like RE2 at 5K 6-8GB is fine still.
