Wiper squeak driving me crazy!

Recommend me something to stop this as even when it’s absolutely pouring down the wipers squeak and squeal across the screen. It does clear the screen so the wipers are being effective and I don’t notice any juddering or missing part of the screen, it’s just the constant noise!

Lift the wipers off the screen and twist the the wiper arm a bit then try, if its still squeaking go the other way, for all the doubters it does work.

I have heard cleaning the wipers with neat screen wash can help?

Can’t say I have had much joy in the past, only thing that seems to work is changing out the wipers.

Fortunately a pair of Bosch Wipers for my previous cars are less than £20.

How old are your wipers?

My original OEM wipers started squeaking, less than a year old, cleaning didn't seem to help at all, just bought some Bosch ones, fixed.

Just trolled the tyre thread with a Q about wipers. I am thinking of a Glaco + new wiper job on my E43. What brand are we buying nowadays?

Michelin hybrid ones have been pretty nice , versus bosch standards I'd used before,
I always clean the blades with same soapy wash cloth for cowling/sills/low body panels/door seals, you need some soap/detergent.

Washing up liquid with a bit of vinegar sorts my trucks wipers (2017, nigh on 400K miles, factory wipers) otherwise, just replace them.

It goes next week as its lease is up, the wipers have served it well!

Every pair of Bosch wipers I’ve had have been terrible, across 3 different cars. Judder like crazy.

Valeo are good, and I’m currently using Halfords Advanced.

Main thing is a good polish of your sunscreen though, can really make a difference.

Never had juddering issues with Bosch but they have been the same model wipes on 2 Polo’s, Audi A3 and a Golf.

Only time I had judder was after applying a repelenat to windscreen without applying it to the wipers which I have since learnt my lesson.

Interested to know if OP changed out wipers or found a way to stop the judder?

It's been much reduced recently that I haven't changed anything yet.

I've also had issues with Bosch wipers, won't use em again. The worst being that I bought a set in December and by March they were so worn the rubbers were separating from the wiper chassis

I took a punt on a cheap set called AeroWiper on ebay and they've been the best wipers I've ever had & for £11 for both front and rear, bargain !

If you take a close look of a wiper blade, you'll see that the rubber can pivot so the rubber is pulled across the screen. If the blade is worn or stiff, or the arm is bent/twisted the blade rubber wont pivot and it'll be pushed across the glass. This makes noise and will judder when it gets worse. Perhaps it's doing that? I'm a mechanic and only fit proper blades these days, genuine, Bosch or Valeo usually. Normally find cheap ones only last a few months.

EDIT: Also look at a rain repellent. I use AngelWax H2Go and it's fantastic. Wipers aren't needed at all from around 40mph. https://angelwax.co.uk/product/h2go-the-ultimate-rain-repellent/

I replaced the 2017 OEM ones on my Duster with Bosch after the front windscreen cracked as I thought running over the crack might have damaged them.

Binned them for Valeo ones in very short order and have been very pleased with their performance. Put them on the Megane earlier this year and that set have worked fine as well.
