The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Well balanced article on the Twitter Files here. tl;dr: both sides of the argument can score a point or two, but overall there's no scandalous revelation to be found.
FWIW, I don't (and I think I can speak for others here) think its some scandalous revelation, I just think it was something very unwelcome and support it being 'fixed'.

However, this reads as an highly subjective opinion piece just discussing both sides of the argument, it's fence sitting at it's worst

In the end, I think it’s hard to disagree with David French when he writes:

The picture that emerges is of a company that simply could not create and maintain clear, coherent, and consistent standards to restrict or manage allegedly harmful speech on its platform. Moreover, it’s plain that Twitter’s moderation czars existed within an ideological monoculture that made them far more tolerant toward the excesses of their own allies.

And quickly opens on the nothing burger side with
There’s also the question of exactly what the Twitter Files show. Much of the information that has been presented so far has been divorced from any useful context.
so just cites some anecdotal instances etc, which I'm not dismissiing, I'm saying its too early to have an objective discussion.

I won't go as far as saying this is some form of copium because that would not be honest, it's an opinion and one I don't hugely disagree with, but she has no conclusion other than pointing out non twitter file Musk behaviour and saying it's unwelcome, and again, I don't disagree, Musk being Musk is hardly a surprise and I certainly wouldn't advise him it's a wholesome way forward.

Nah, those right wing types and hillbillies hate electric vehicles.

Yes, there is some excellent comedy coming involving hubris if he keeps aligning right.

At some point it may become apparent to his customer base that he's just too much of a douche to be buying products from and a mass cancelling of orders pours in... because there's other options.

I don't believe he gave a single **** about feedback from actual truck owners (or semi owners) if he cared to ask them at all when throwing engineers at the truck and semi project.

Have to say it's been a pretty amusing past few days, don't agree with the bans on plane tracking accounts, but if they are deciding to link it to doxxing then kinda understandable. If they start applying subjective banning based on ideology then they are no better than old twitter - given they've gone down the 'real time' location info is a no-no and delayed info is ok that could be a real possibility though.

Going to put a spanner in the works of these twitter accounts that track possible football signings though :D

Edit, wrong twitter account quoted :D meant to quote bill gates one thats still up wUnder the new rules is still is ok currently as they haven't posted in 6 odd months, if they were to update today as soon as Gates hopped on a plane then you'd assume it would be banned.
The insane thing about this, is that if you are mental enough to stalk/follow someone, then I imagine you are going to make the effort to just look up the publicly available information in the myriad of other places you can get it. Banning it from Twitter is pointless.
I can guarantee that you won't apply that same sort of thinking to people and/or ideas that you don't like. So close to understanding the concept of free speech, and yet so far!

End of the day, it's a private company they can do what they want though right?

It's the hypocrisy and total BS that's the story.

Power tripping and banning people is a daily occurrence in the social internet. It's much more amusing to see a CEO banning a literal nobody after saying he wouldn't, then editing the rules to say he's right, then coming out with a weird car story as a reason to ban the plane guy and throwing in legal threats for spice.

With respect, when you start using lines like this, you're lowering the quality of your post to roar level, and you're better than that.

I could go into a thousand reasons why they can't just "do what they want", advertisers, bills to pay, users, laws etc, so no they can't, but it's a stupid conversation to have.

What you're also doing, knowingly or not, is skipping over the conversation about hypocrisy and statements he made recently, that are now false/lies.

Elon said himself he considers twitter the town hall and it needs to be free. Elon is restricting posts by getting policy added just because he was annoyed at posts that he didn't like that affected him personally.

Now you can't start to see, that this whole "free town speech" thing was possibly nonsense. Many users know already that it was, but maybe you can start to see the truth too. One tiny brick removed from that wall that protects Elon from critism.

Omg yes he can do what he wants with it (within legal boundaries obviously). How many times do you and others have to be told that we are pointing out and laughing at the hypocrisy of it all!

I totally agree that Elon can do with it has he sees fit, but he just continues to make himself look like a hypocritical moron by doing so.

Since when have you guys cared about hypocrisy?
Well when you're repeatadly skipping over it then of course you don't know the answer to that.

Now you know right? So when it comes up again, you can't brush off critism about hypocrisy by just saying "you don't beleive in it any way" and then never address the points like you're doing.

Of course they don't know how to answer.

There is no argument or answer. Elon is just objectively being a hypocritical idiot.

We are no doubt going to get loads of ridiculous argument pretzels about this and I'm here for the hilarity.
