Have you looked at the road top or carpuride screens?

Those stick on screens are not my thing although for cars without a compatible screen aleady installed these might do the job well. I wanted full integration with my cars built in Android stereo so the USB dongle just plugs into one of the ports in my glove box!

Assuming you have AUX in, then you could get one of those then and have audio out from it going into your car stereo's AUX in and then you'd be set. Extra wires flying around though and an extra item to get nicked on the street :/

Me neither, been using my phone since forever, but the good thing with that is that the software is never out of date when I use a phone.

Neither is Android Auto as it's streaming the AA layer of the app on the phone and the whole AA ecosystem is designed to stream off the phone too, so no matter what car you get down the line, or even if it's a used one, as long as the built in stereo supports Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay), then you will always have the latest versions of everything you use via it since the phone is the host.
