Which tyres this time round?

I've been putting eagle F1's on my cars for like 10yrs plus now, dry and wet grip are great for spirited driving. Wear rate is probably the only issue for people. Haven't tried the AS6 yet.

Just had a pair of Goodyear Eagle AS6 fitted £180 for a pair of fronts 225/45/17. Best to shop around as I find Blackcircles are just too expensive now. Going direct to companies gives you a cheaper price.

My only criticism of PS4s is they are no good below a certain temperature, like 4c maybe, but then this is the same for more or less every tyre, but it feels like they get a bit worse.

I find it varies a lot depending on brand and model - Bridgestones for instance I've rarely noticed any change really until you hit freezing. Often seems to be the compromise with top tier performance tyres though that you need some warmth in them for them to work at their best.

I had Nexens and then Avons on my Qashqai and you quickly notice it when temperatures get down below 7C or so - annoyingly the tyres I want for it are either currently unavailable in that size or stupidly priced and I'm not set on keeping the vehicle either.

Avoid ransports.

Werw great when new, but now at 3mm... I'm wheel spinning out of junctions and sliding around bends at 40...
Swapping to some new tyres soon.

205/50/17

That is a bit of a small width for something with 220+HP. What is the width of your rims? As if you can get 225/45/17 to fit you will find they are a lot cheaper with a lot more choice and also virtually the same so your speedo will still be good. I just paid last week £90 a tyre full fitted for AS6 fitted at F1 autocentres as they had a promo on.

You need to watch for rubbing if you go up a size. It’s only 205s on the Cooper S and JCW Mini’s, if you go up to 215 or 225s you can get tyre rubbing depending on the brand.

I don’t know the answer but it’s called “VOLVO V50 S40 C30 17 INCH CRATUS ALLOY”

205 is the size recommended when I put the plate into search.

i have the EA6's on my 330i, great tyres.
I managed to talk halfords into doing an amazing deal, ending up with a bill of 398 for two of each 255/35/18 and 225/40/18. Give them a ring and see if they're willing to cut you a deal IMO!

7J is perfectly fine for a 225/45/17 tyre. My Saab has the same width wheels. It is whether it will not rub with the offset of the wheel that might be the issue. I would get on the owners forum and see what people are doing as 225/45/17 is an extremely common size and premium tyres are very cheap. Plus with a 225 width you will have more grip as well :). You would be saving £40 a tyre (Essential 3 for the price of 2) and a bigger contact area as well.

So…the car can take 235mm, but I’m not sure if these rims can.

Also, I haven’t found any confirmation for my car whether the suspension on the R-Design is lower than an SE.

4 fitted Efficency Performance is £423, 4 AS6 is £560.

p.s. the nearest garage that is on F1autocentre is 50miles round trip away.

they're fine had them forever on 3series - better wet grip than michelins in the same segment, but shorter life, bridgestone potenza I had before also good grip but shorter life;
I'd like to try cross-climates shi mentioned next time, for frequently muddy local roads, frost, rwd.

Going direct to companies gives you a cheaper price.
do price matching on your nearest shop, used to drive 30miles for tyres , last ones at national just a couple of miles, saving > gallon, F1 had done price match and Halfords;
check out on hotuk at what time of year manufacturer typically has deals, too.

I've got cross climate 1+
and in my 120bhp Focus, in these current conditions, my car wheel spins in 1st when pulling away

cross climate 2's however are supposed to be a lot better

in the winter when temps really drop, then they excel
