Oof - 46 in a 30

Lol, so the consensus so far is anything from 3 points and £100 to 6 points and £1600.

Cheers :D

I'll just wait it out and see what happens, first time I've ever been stopped so hopefully they take pity on me :p

I'm going to go a bit different. I believe you're well within the zone to just get a 3pts/£100 fine. A summons to court for a 30mph limit would not normally happen until 50mph. 35-42mph the option of a speed awareness court, 43-50mph 3pts/£100 fine, 50mph+ court summons

If he's been pulled over though, a FPN would have to be there and then wouldn't it? I didn't think a road side stop could lead to a postal FPN, so if it wasn't offered and accepted roadside, it's off to court he goes?

I know it's changed around my area, the whole FPN thing is gone now and been replaced by TORs (traffic offence reports). Basically a police officer fills it in at the roadside and simply sends it off to a Central Ticket Office. In the CTO, they check the driver's history on the computer (ie. if they've had a SAC in the last 3 years), and if not and the speed is within SAC territory (42mph and below) a SAC is offered.

If the speed is between 43mph and 49mph the driver is not eligible for a SAC but is offered a "conditional offer" (£100 + 3pts to me and you). If it's more than 50mph then classified as a "high speeder" and for court to deal with via the Single Justice Procedure (ie. you don't need to attend court if you don't want to and you pleas guilty).

Hopefully that made sense?

Yep, TORs are a new one on me but if so, bar the copper telling him it's going to the courts (which could be just to panic him for a few weeks), then sounds like perhaps there's still a chance he'll get away with a 3pt/£100 FPN.

Pfft I got done at 54 in a 30.

6 points and a big fine.

I reckon you'll be getting the same.
I got done at the same speed in '06 - went to court repped myself (at 18, within 6 months of passing) and walked about with a 28 day ban, 0 points and no retake.

Luckiest I've ever felt, well within their rights to give me 6 points, a ban due to the amount of points and a retake. Defo learnt my lesson though

Pretty much, it's not unknown for police officer's to not know the thresholds. Never say never but I'm very confident that the OP should be expecting 3pts £100 fine conditional offer.

@Diddums be sure to let us know when you've lubed up!

Years ago I got caught doing 42+ in a 30 at 3am. Was put in the back of a Vauxhall Senator and given a right bollocking. Towards the end I started to think 'I might get off this' and made my apology, all was going well until the driver realised I had inadvertantly sat on his hat. It must have been on the seat when I got in, but it was dark and I was bricking it so didn't notice. I ended up with a fine and 3 points :(
