We had training on self scans, smart shop and the new till system which rolled out around 2019. When have new starters, I am one of the three colleagues my manager asks to train them.

Never been trained on the new self scans - the inside mechanics of them, not the customer interface, installed in May as I was off recovering from an asthma attack caused by the mdf dust and fumes from carpet glue (in offices) and other solvents used during the mini refit. In the past, stores were closed for a week and could do the whole job in that tine. Instead they worked around us and when store was shut and took 4 weeks. Profit over HnS.

Some colleagues still think I'm trained "Hey Cheese could do sort out the coin recycler on this self scan". "Sorry still not trained"

Not that I care but when did those black mesh trainers as per running shoes and some light weight work shoes become acceptable as formal attire? (example https://www.underarmour.co.uk/en-gb...ged_impulse_3_running_shoes/195253288647.html in plain black) been to a couple of work meetings/courses recently where the instructions was strictly formal attire (nominally black shoes, black trousers, plain shirt as a minimum, expectation suit) and noticed several people wearing them and at a funeral service a few days ago likewise saw several people wearing them with suits.

The Brits have a habit of eroding minimum standards unfortunately.
 
Curious question, my dads retired (kind of - He does some work for himself but also has the odd consultancy gig with MCP if they need him). The main guy at MCP is retiring and they're doing a collection and have approached my dad and he's asked what's a typical amount to contribute.

Now my personal thing would be sod that, he's not even a colleague! But we'll ignore that. What do people typically do these days? I suggested £10-£20 depending on how well you knew the person. Although i imagine it's more common for a more rounded amount these days of remote working, where in the past people would just throw in coins they had in a pocket!

It was quite a coincidence, if I'd been 1minute later or before we would never have met.
I was hobbling down the stairs testing my knee to get some hospital notes off a Secretary and as I got to the bottom step I could see a Porter with badge trying to get in.
I opened the door and he asked "Are you Dave?" and then said he was Malevolence but I didn't check his badge so I could have been murdered.
