Is it safe to buy fuel/diesel from supermarket chain stores?

apparently additives , & ethanol too, injected at the tanker filling gantry , less than 1gallon/tanker load, pity Shell don't sell their additive alone for diy.

Bottom Loading with Vapour Recovery​
Suitable for bottom loading of road tankers with API Coupler Connections. The arms can be designed to connect to side of the tanker and also cross over to suit the configuration of the tanker connections.​
Ethenol Blending Skid​
Additional to the loading gantry we also supplied a two stream blending skid for Ethenol​

Pretty much confirming the scam fuel in general is, they all load from the same refinery, the same product, some have a little additive, barely any, yet the prices vary hugely - even from the same supplier in the same city / town - how this isn’t a national scandal is beyond me!

It’s a repetitive thread topic on here and I don’t waste my time anymore. I did a thread ages ago and the armchair experts knew more apparently.

If you can point me to it I’d like to read (or, re-read if I’ve forgotten it) all I’m saying is what I see when I goto either the Stanlow or Fawley refineries, rows of various tankers loading from what certainly looks like the same tanks, one loads, disconnects another hooks up to the same feed hoses and loads again, now perhaps one is being fed from the “supermarket supply” tank another from the “major brands finest” tank but, it doesn’t appear that way.

A union has stated Jet garages across the UK are set to run out of fuel later this month as tanker drivers employed by JW Suckling and Hoyer Gas and Petroleum Logistics Ltd take strike action over pay.

You know what the uk is like, a snifter of a fuel strike then countrywide panic buying and queues will ensue
 
This has came up a few times, one of the fuel delivery drivers is on here and says that while the fuel is from the same refineries the additives and amount of times the storage tanks are cleaned are different depending on supermarket/vendor. He is also advised one supermarket doesn't put any extra additives in but wouldn't confirm what one this was.

I generally go BP/Shell locally due to the current market they are the same price as the supermarkets. Anymore than 2-3p a litre more expensive I'd go with the supermarkets

It used to be the case that tankers would visit whatever refinery was nearest no matter who owned it it was a cosy arrangement between the forecourt operators no idea if that still applies but I can't imagine why not
 
My boss has told us we must be using our UK Fuels fuel card as the bunker price is far cheaper than pump price - Card price £1.26 a litre, pump price £1.66!

It just so happens Sainsbury’s accepts UK Fuels cards which is where I’ve always got my fuel from and never had an issue.

I used Sainsbury's Super Unleaded (97) as it's the cheapest E5/Super Unleaded around me at 148.9p

I think you'll find that'll be £1.26 + VAT = £1.51

Still cheaper, but not as much as you were thinking!

I guess the next question would be:

How much (if any) difference do those additives actually make to the average bog standard car driven around the UK?

I'm sure for some highly tuned performance cars it will be noticeable (I could tell the difference between standard and V-Power/Momentum in my VR-4), but in your every day family hatchback?
