Birmingham Airport Pickup

Thanks Everyone for the advice. I think i am going to pick them up from Birmingham International Station looks like you can get 20 mins free so will find somewhere near by to park up and then they can call me when on the monorail and i can head towards them. Any recommendations on where to park nearby? Is there a maccys, costa, starbucks or services within 10 mins of the station?

BTW it will be 6.30am if that makes a difference.
Why go to this extra hassle?

Just use the free pick up area near the airport entrance that we have told you about, a few minutes walk from the terminals.

Apologies, from what i have seen that car park shows its a drop off point not a pickup area.

So can i park up there, walk to the terminal and then walk back and drive off? If its 20 mins its free, above that its £1, £3 etc?

Those charges are the drop off prices. You parked in a long stay car park.

Have you noticed that the BP garage outside EMA you can get fined for parking there without filling up and not leaving immediately? As people took the **** and used that for pick up point.

Nope but noticed the prices on the breakfasts at East Midlands though felt like I got raped without spit after paying that

Did you book through a discount website? My employer has a discount app which many colleagues don’t know about, until I mentioned it.

My parents and I are flying from EMA in Sept. A week’s parking is £46 through the app. My parents are flying from EMA in June for 10 days. They can’t use the discount app as I’m not with them. They paying £72 through a discount website.

Some airlines do give you a code or link to book airport parking at a cheaper rate

In theory yes. In practice, it's a 15min+ round trip walk, which doesn't really give you much margin for error if the flight is delayed or you/your mum get a bit lost. If you want somewhere to stop and wait nearby, Marston Green is probably the best option, ~5 mins drive, there's a row of shops on Station Road including a Subway and a couple of convenience stores.

Brilliant, thanks for your help. Just what i wanted. Hopefully there will be somewhere i can get a coffee in the morning while waiting for them to call me to come and pick them up. :)

Ah looks like there is a Mcdonalds and Asda just round the corner on Coventry Rd Yardley so nice and straight little run :)

Wife booked it in all honesty so dunno but to be fair 114 for 2 weeks parking didn't seem bad cheaper than a taxi to and from the airport no doubt prices will shoot up before I go away next

Depending what time you are due to pick them up, be aware the A45 gets VERY busy during rush hour, and also there are currently roadworks around the airport junction which isn't going to help (saying that, Bickenhill Lane gets pretty busy too :()

Thanks for that. I will be about 7am this Friday so hopefully will be a bit quiet with the Bank Holiday. Will get them to call me once they have got their luggage and through customs etc then they can walk to the drop off point and i will leave maccys and should be there in about 10 mins.

I did notice the red and yellow parts on the Coventry Road map for traffic but hopefully should be fine early(ish) in the morning.

These ultra short drop off and pickup charges **** me off so much, and they all do it now. Birmingham, Luton, Heathrow, Gatwick, been to all of them the last few months and they all charge.

Fair enough I guess if you have to park up to pick someone up, but charging to drop someone off where there's no reason to have any delays should be illegal. Especially when there's no way to pay before you leave site, like at Heathrow and Gatwick, you have to remember to go online after the fact to do it.

Such a racket.

Hopefully those places will be open after 9pm. My flight lands at 8pm. Will be pretty starving as European airports are rubbish for food choices at airports! Remember Rhodes had some minging burgers or very dry looking sandwiches.

Expect Larnaca to be similar.

This has been in the Derby Telegraph for years, people getting fined just turning in the petrol station getting fined and i seem to recall someone getting fined for using the petrol station to buy something but not petrol and they got a fine. I think it was about 15-20 years ago that used to be a common drop off point and they just got annoyed and started imposing silly fines.

If you are picking someone up from EMA just wait at the services on the A453 island and get them to call once they are ready to pickup then its 5 mins to the short term car park.

That said the services price is hideous, i remember coming back from Northampton with my sister a couple of years back and had a pastie from the place in that services.. It was about £8!!! For a PASTY!!!

If airports could charge you for the air you breath they would. These places seem to go out their way to make sure everyone feels violated before they head off on their hols.

Not sure about subway, but at least one of the shops is open till 11pm (the one nearest the station), and there's a chippy and chinese as well
