MX5 (MK3) or S2000 worth the jump?

Yeah, actually reads like a proper enthusiastic ad too.

I did used to prefer the MK2 looks but since I've been searching, I do quite like the MK3. I also feel the more modern touches will suit it as a daily driver especially the hard top version

Only thing I don't like about that one is the horrible aftermarket grill. Otherwise it's completely standard apparently.

Would want to change that back to original or close

*Checked it's mot history out of interest, and it has had a few fails over the years including one due to rust/corrosion. I wonder how that was addressed?

I think I'll keep looking for a MK3 anyway

Still looking into this.

Is an older Z4 worth considering?

Different cars completely...

I was looking for a decent NB mx5 as I loved mine. In the end I went for a Z4.

But actually, being in my mid 40s now, the additional refinement day to day, with the option of a decent run out (and a straight 6 under the bonnet while I can still have one), I don't regret it.

No, it's not as much as a pure driver's car on B roads, but it's still a good car.

I'd argue they both sit slightly either side of the aisle - the NC has better handling (out the box; can be made better still) and more enjoyable on b-roads (especially with the roof down) as you "feel" a bit more whereas, the Z4 is a touch clinical and you do notice the extra 2/300 kilos but makes for a lot better daily as it's more comfortable (definitely caters for taller/bigger folks), little quieter, few more creature comforts, quicker etc.

I had the same dilemma, NC v E89 (and a 987 but that was budget busting at the time), and all i would say is to drive both and see which you prefer as they both offer slightly different things.

The real question is, did you test drive the Abarth 124 you saw? And, why haven't you bought one?

Ha, na I didn't in the end. The sales guy emailed me a few times and I just didn't want to waste anyone's time. If I was passing, I planned to pop in but ultimately decided against it.

If I'm doing this, it's for a cheaper alternative and to clear the monthlies I think

A 3L Z4 is a fine motor, a little different to the MX5, but still a 2 seat roadster. They’re looking better with age too. How are running costs on these. I presume a step up from an MX5?
