Self propelled lawnmowers - WHY?

I wouldn't have manual one. It's too annoying having to turn around when the mower can do it for me.

Also for mine the propulsion is on demand. I don't need to use it. (but that would be stupid!)

Its just the effort of pushing it that gets me, an hour of shoving it around is meh I really miss the self propelled ones

Just got a new petrol mower and it's a self propelled one, didn't buy for that reason but didn't realise how useless it is for normal folks

Pull the lever and you are off round the garden like the Keystone Cops and forever stopping and starting to turn round or do small bits

Unless you are either/both frail or have a football pitch sized garden are they any use? will I get used to using it?

At moment thinking of disconnecting the cable to the lever

You get used to it. For turning you tilt it so the front wheels lift off and spin it around and it'll pirouette through 180 degrees and you continue mowing next to the previous stripe, all in a single motion. Probably takes a lil' practice. For grass contractors its second nature. :)

Its been a while since i used one but I think there should be some way of altering the drive speed certainly lowering the revs/throttle will do so

I'd suggest the OP returns the lawnmower ASAP and never uses another piece of machinery again, because if you cant work out the self propelled bit i'm seriously worried about you losing a limb in the sharp spinny thing on the bottom!

Seriously its a lawnmower .... hardly a complicated piece of equipment!

Just attached a boogie board to the back and have it tow you round
No kidding the guys in the Caribbean were doing this when we were there last year.
The fair motored round the quite complicated lawns being towed by their mowers.

Used to work at a place where there was a large cylinder mower that had a bucket seat at the back on a trailer thingy. Lawn tractors are much more fun though
