We're used to these big numbers now but they really are astonishing compared to recent conflicts. For example total U.S military deaths are just over 7 thousand for the gulf war, afghan war, Iraq war and Syria, all combined
And these are just Wagner losses, that 20 thousand dead doesn't even include the losses from the Russian army, or the two breakaway regions, or the Chechens

Its been a long time since I've studied firing tables and such. You'd have to do a bit of math but from hearing that I'd estimate around 1km, maybe 1.5km at a push. bearing in mind that you have to factor in speed of sound, ballistic arc etc. its entirely feasible that they are being fired from across the border but they'd literally have to be posted up right next to it. considering the recent actions and the heat that will be on that area, thats not a place i'd want to be setting up a mortar... Thats also not a place I'd want to be reporting from in body armour, helmet and a Z patch. thats just screaming out to be targeted!
