Trying "Motorway" for the first time!

Yeah I kind of wanted to request we wait until their own guy was back from holiday/available but I'm sure it's ok must be the norm

Just not sure what to expect in terms of appraisal from a third party, where do their interests lay in that regard.
Less than their own guy, I can tell you that much lol!

Yeah I'd imagine you'll probably get away with a bit more if it's an uninterested party doing the appraisal.

I honestly can't see any reason it would get any changes based on the ad etc. Cleaning it last night it truly is as described. Even new tyres and (unfortunately) a full tank of fuel :D bad planning on my part

So I just had the call from the chap due to collect my car tomorrow, he's getting a train and then driving my car away? I was under the impression it would be collected in a transporter or something?

And he's unsure on what time he will get here but he drives the car home and then to the dealer the following day?

And what happens if he's not hear until after the dealer is closed? They won't be able to pay or anything surely.

Sounds a little odd to me, not sure I like that :D

Yeah that's how they work. The lad walked from the station to mine and then drove off. He had the red trade plates in his bag. It is all legit, albeit a bit of a "new experience" for us all (I mean how often do normal folk sell cars, let alone over the internet :D

;)

The only bit that worried me is that if he runs late (which he was a bit concerned about on the phone) and can't communicate with the dealer to confirm the appraisal etc then he's going to drive off without any payment being processed? Surely not hmmm

We shall see.

I guess trade plates cover them for insurance etc so as soon as it's gone I'm safe to cancel all mine?

Yeah the contract is car sold not the payment. Mine came through 2 days later. I was berated by family but it isn't like there is a massive paper trail and a pretty large dealer....

Just went through similar with Carwow. Guy took the train and I swear, didn’t even check the car over apart from a casual glance. Not the standard WBAC Spanish Inquisition by any means.

He then chatted with my old man about random stuff for an hour, before paying and waiting until we confirmed the money transfer. No way was I letting anyone drive off with the car prior.

Originally the driver was going to appear 4pm Friday afternoon or the Saturday morning. I refused both times and we settled on early Monday afternoon - I wanted normal banking hours so there was plenty of time to check the car over and make/receive payment. If you don’t like the timing arrangement, simply change it to suit.

Agree with the above, both times I've used carwow the deal was that cash was in the bank before the vehicle went anywhere. The second collection took a lot longer as the guy spent some time going over the car and making calls to the dealership (they were a smaller setup) while I provided tea Vs first time where it was a big Ford dealer who simply sent the money straight up within 5 mins of the guy arriving to collect.

It will be a tiny risk (payment issues post leaving) - but not a risk I would be willing to take

As part of it is paying off the PCP, that does take a few days to clear. But I assume the equity balance goes direct to me so I would like to see that in my account before they go.

Will check with the dealer this morning as the people collecting are a 3rd party, just see what they make of them potentially running late etc

I sold my old A3 earlier this year through them. The dealer was the other end of the country to me, so they opted to choose motorways services to deliver the car. I can't recall who they use but it is some national company. I too was a bit surprised that it was just being collected by a guy walking in off the street, but he was wearing a uniform and had an ID which was already pre-confirmed when the collection was arranged.

They're paid for by the dealer, so his interest lies with the dealer rather than your own. I remember he took it for a quick test drive and when he got back I remember him saying do you know it's got a bit of a rattle at the back - I wasn't aware and wasn't going to let the dealer haggle anymore money off as they only just hit the reserve price (figuring they've already had to pay for the collection services, even if they turn down the car). But they seemed happy with it, so filled out the paperwork and the dealer bank transferred the money.

I guess these groups are "too big to argue" with.

Interesting on that above, something to consider i get but its limited risk to a degree. I assume collection of car must include V5 even if payment isnt cleared.

Need to wash the Defender before i take pictures for that pretty cool Motorway photo feature as its time to sell it. Do the estimates normally land quite accurately? Im hoping for a dealer bidding war

It's no different to WBAC, even if you pay for their super duper quick payment it's still "within a couple of hours" after you've abandoned it in a random shop carpark.

You don’t argue, you just go to the next bidder and negotiate to price match. You don’t have to accept that sort of situation if you don’t want to.

I get it’s a limited risk and it comes down to your own personal experiences on that, but I’m my case I wasn’t letting 30k drive off without payment first. Had it been the balance of 5k, then yeah I’m probably ok to wait a couple of days.

That is different imo, you’ve gone to their place of business to make a transaction. Other people are there doing the same thing. You can watch the guy make the payment and get a receipt.

Some random guy in plain clothes who isn’t local and just got off the bus, that’s a different risk profile for me.

It isn't a random, he has trade plates and identification. He is just a driver. The payment is done by the accounts payable team...

Not sure why you’re mansplaining how payments are done?

I stand by my comments, if I know I can get instant payment, I’ll always take that option in these circumstances.

You seem to think the lad in the supermarket car park can dish out £30k from his hut without the same level of due diligence that can happen over the phone...
