It isn't just measles Australia has a problem with influenza at the moment with fatalities including children

The irony is that vaccines have made people feel too safe. If people saw their kids and neighbours suffering the effects of these diseases they’d soon get vaccinated. Not that we ever want to see that again, which brings us to the importance of education.

you would say that though because you love a bit of 'culture wars bs' I mean you could look at the areas where the uptake of the MMR jab is falling and then look at how the ethnic make up has changed over the past 15/20 years of those areas and draw some parallels, or just jump to 'hur hur anti vaxers' - Probably a mix of both, although moreso of a result immigration from countries where vaccinations aren't looked at so favorably though.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine

In 2021-22, 89.2% of children at 24 months had completed their first dose of the MMR vaccine, which is a decrease from 90.3% in 2020-21. The World Health Organization (WHO) target is 95%.

Regional data5 shows seven of the nine regions reached 90% coverage. No region exceeded the 95% target. The North East had the highest level of coverage at 94.5% (down from 95.3% the previous year). London had the lowest level of coverage in 2021-22 at 79.9% (down from 82.4% in 2020-21).

In 2021-22, 16 local authorities out of 149 had coverage levels of 95% and above. Coverage of less than 90% was reported for 61 local authorities including all London authorities.

In 2021-22, 85.7% of children received their 2nd dose of MMR vaccine (MMR2) by their 5th birthday, a decrease from 86.6% in the previous year.

This is why this country is ****** as it will always be the migrants fault for some people when its usually vaccines or better government provisions.

It's 100% both.
There was a news article here about some disease coming back to Sweden after being eradicated for Xxx years, just turned out to be a family of unvaccinated immigrants.
Vaccination shouldn't even be optional in 2023.

One threat to impose on parents who refuse to take up vaccinations for their children, which are free on the NHS. NHS will treat any child who has been diagnosed with any of the illnesses that have vaccines for them - then bill them for the cost of the treatment.

On my GP's system, they use SystmOnline and gives me the dates of my various childhood vaccinations.

Whilst we cannot make vaccinations compulsory for UK born we should IMO make them compulsory for anyone wanting to move to live here.
Short period (say 90 days) to get done, or whoosh off you go.

Most kids in my generation had all three, measles, mumps and chicken pox during their time at school. Nowadays it is hugely less prevalent so could be more serious maybe.

The consequences of infection are no worse than they ever were.

An increased likelihood of contracting mumps or measles in the unvaccinated in recent years could mean the number of complications is higher.

I suppose it is also possible that, if you do not recognise the benefits of vaccination, you might also be less likely to recognise symptoms and seek early treatment. Who knows?

In response to the migrants posts, TB in particular has increased prevalence recently and it is suspected that many of these cases are in recent migrants*. Don't remember measles or mumps being linked to incoming migrants.

The article lists Russia, Tajikistan and Turkey as high prevalence, but not sure we get too many migrants from there! Possible though, so thanks.
