Really? I've seen recordings on YouTube of other games like The Last of Us using like amounts of RAM. I'm told that Cities: Skylines is another RAM hog.

Two or three badly optimised games I expect. Given a fraction of the overall PC gaming user base has 16GB cards or better it would be very foolish to purposely manufacture games with such demands/constraints.
So we've gone form 'a massive outlier' to 'Two or three badly optimised games'. What's the next excuse going to be? The OP has the opportunity to totally obviate the problem.
Seems like a pointless argument to me
We could then say
Well you don't really need a 4090 either
Personally got 32gb ram
I have had the last of us part 1
Crash with lack of memory error (ram not vram)
Spending over 3 grand but penny pinching on ram
Seems wrong to me
Especially since looks like the op will only
Upgrade rarely
thanks for the feedback all, i think ill go with the 64gb just as mentioned above, i dont upgrade often so may as well spend a little extra now to hopefully reap some benefits further down the line.

Can you share your final basket - looks similar to what I was considering?
I need a replacement PC and was considering a prebuilt but think I may go back to building myself as I need it asap.
Last one I built was a few years ago and I had a clear out so assume you still need cables, cpu paste (is it still artic silver?) etc

@Rarr I assume that Fractal case linked in this thread has enough space for the cpu cooler and graphics card - the reviews for the cooler say it’s rather large.
