Just what is NVIDIA up to?

Sadly though 6800xt is rare as chickens teeth and after checking Pricespy, there isn't a single retailer that has them in stock where I am
Whereabouts are you based? There's a pretty healthy amount in the UK, I can find at least 3 different models available from 3 different retailers all for 499 including here on Overclockers.

20GB GDDR6X UNIFIED RAM they are stating in rumoured spec.
Does the PS5 really use 350W??? That's more than my 5800X3D and undervolted 4090

Zuby needs to put down the crack pipe - those specs are delusional :D

Apparently the max consumption recorded on a PS5 digital was 200w and 209w for a disc version. It's on the PlayStation website, they've actually done a really nice job in laying it all out!

PlayStation®5 Digital Edition model number: CFI-1216B

HD

  • Active gaming (PS5 games: three game average): 200.8 W
  • Active gaming (PS4 game: Battlefield 4): 95.8 W
  • Streaming media: 54.6 W
  • Home menu user interface: 43.8 W
UHD

  • Active gaming (PS5 games: three game average): 200.9 W
  • Home menu user interface: 45.2 W
Low power

  • Rest*: 0.35 W
  • Rest (Supply Power to USB Ports): 3.1 W

This one says 60 CUs:

Which would match Navi 32 and make some sense as AMD re-using tech. So that is still probably around RX6800XT/RTX4070 level. Also, its quite clear the CPUs might be also a limiting factor in the consoles,so if there are some improvements in that area,it should be a good update over the PS5.

That sounds more reasonable - and I'm not suggesting they can't make some meaningful improvements but that Zuby Tech 'rumour' looks bogus.

PS5 Pro would/will be a niche product (don't know the exact numbers but Sony were quoted as saying they sold 1 PS4 Pro per 4 PS4's sold) - also, the PS4 Pro sold for the same price as the PS4's launch price ($399) which would be impossible ($499) based on those specs meaning the uptake would likely be much lower - also, the PS4 Pro had a clearly defined USP - 4k support - PS5 Pro would just be a 'faster PS5'.

But what is worse the upselling of both Nvidia and AMD means the PS5 Pro is going to look better than it should.

If the RTX4070 had been sold as the RTX4060TI like it should have been from the start, and Navi 32 as the RX7700XT 12GB/16GB,we would have gotten that performance in a £400 dGPU.

Now most of the current new releases look slower than an RX6800XT under £500,THREE years after the consoles launched.

I've given up on this generation - nothing exciting's going to happen until 2025 now.

Whether that's 'exciting good' or 'exciting bad' remains to be seen. Hopefully we'll have some decent games in the meantime.

I need to see how Starfield runs. If it turns out to be good, hopefully it runs OK at medium settings at qHD using an 8GB card.

You expect Grim5 to be 100% truthful in a gpu debate. It was of course too much effort to check the website he is actually on to get his facts straight. The truth is that the 6800xt has been available and in stock in the UK and US for most of the past year, how long this stock lasts I do not know.

  • Haha
Reactions: TNA
Midrange GPU's are supposed to be the PCMR entry, costs more than a console but ultimately better.

This thing will utterly utterly utterly humiliate the 4060Ti, it will make it look very last gen, which is it.

Game console: 6950XT with 20GB.

Nvidia: here is a 6700XT with 8GB, have fun with that.....
That there is what i just don't get with Nvidia, you'd assume they want RT and DLSS to be the next big thing, for loads of people to have the hardware capable of using it so developers invest the time and money into putting that in their games.

But no, it seems Nvidia don't want to sell the hardware at as close to cost as possible to drive the adoption of those technologies, they're happy with trying to squeeze as much profit out of the hardware today even if that means RT & DLSS shamble along like something out of the living dead.

Check this out from my good friend Steve :o

The 6800XT, ###### crushes the 4060Ti 16GB, crushes it...... the 6800XT which is AMD first gen RT vs Nvidia's 3'rd gen..... is 15% faster on average in RT.

and he says the AMD card is way the better buy ? what a nvidia shill and he says 4060ti cant use the RT claim to justify its claim ?? he says if you do care for RT the AMD card is actually better in most examples he doesnt even big up DLSS and Frame generation as much as I thought he could ?

and to close it off he says at this price point without question the AMD card is by far the best deal

Then we get trash like the RTX4060TI 8GB. If it even had 16GB as standard it might have at least had a redeeming feature.

Some rumours say 60CUs for the PS5 Pro,but all them seem to hint at RX6800XT~RX6950XT level performance, with the improved RT of RDNA3.

Most of the new releases under £500 won't be able to compete, and maybe none of the releases under £650 will be any faster! :(

They are probably looking at the US market. In the UK you can get decent RX6800XT cards for under £500.

72cu is more likely than 60 though due to the way Sony likes doing backwards compatibility

They did this with the ps4 pro as well. To make sure that playing unpatched base ps5 not break a ps5 pro would need to match the performance output of a base ps5 and the way Sony likes doing this by being able to drop clock speeds in half - so for a ps5 pro you give it double the 36 CU the ps5 has and then when you play old ps5 game on it, all 72 CU run at half clock speed - that way games perform just like they do on a base ps5 unless the developer patches the game then the pro runs at full speed

Microsoft doesn't care so much, they're more happy to just let games run at all full speed and if it causes any issues in framerate unlocked game or causes animation to run out of sync etc then it's developers problem but Sony likes to make sure it can gaurantee zero issues
