Upgrade 2080 to 4070 with 3600x worth it?

Found a guide for PBO2 & mine runs error free at -30 which results in more boosts to 4550 & the temp has dropped 5c to 68c. I'm still testing & not touched the Limits tab yet.
Reckon need move onto the CPU thread now.
 
Speaking of 5800X3Ds, is there any obvious reason that mine runs about 5-10c hotter since I downgraded my GPU from a 4080 to a 6950XT?
 
Sapphire 7900XT 1st OC test 120823. Early days yet & need run more stability tests. OCCT CPU / GPU / VRAM testing looks good.
Need fit a higher RPM fan inside the case to get rid of the heat & keep the GPU hotspot under 90c & keep the fans from spinning up too fast as the Sapphire fans whine over 90%. Also in 4yrs with a 3600X & 2080 never once did the 850W PSU fan spin up, but it spins up now :D
Seen over 370w from the Radeon :eek: & it only has 2 not 3 power inputs.
Port Royal shows performance between 4070ti & 4080 but closer to 4070ti, so I'm happy not plumping an extra £80 for the 4070ti & having future proofing of 20GB VRAM. Although, DLSS is better than FSR2 so roll on FSR3... Meaning maybe a 4070 could be better with RT in some games right now. Annoying not having DLSS as can't run Portal RT.
Finally got Cyberpunk working at a locked 60fps in RT ultra balanced at 3072x1728.

If the 4080 used less power or the 6950xt runs hotter then the inside of the case may now be hotter.
Yeah, I considered that, but the temp difference between GPUs isn't even 10c, so I don't see why the CPU would heat up that much. Does SAM affect heat output?

Really like Ray Tracing. Upscalers are a must & I usually try high settings with 1440p if necessary. 2080 is showing its age now.
Also looking at Radeon 6800 to 6950xt but concerned about RayTracing & upscalers.
UE5 with nanite etc is the future huh
I would say that RDNA is a fantastic buy for anything other than raytracing. It can do it but your stuck at 1080p for any worthwhile fps. Regarding upscalers, i find FSR 2.1 to be almost as good as DLSS, to the point actually that unless your pixel peeping it shouldn't be an issue and FSR 3 is just around the corner it seems. However, might all be a moot point since you have a heavy focus on RT. I don't really see a point performance wise in the 4070 ti and below. You would want the specs of a 4080 or 4090 and yes.. it will cost you an arm or a leg.. So my take would be.. either pay up for the proper performance or readjust your focus(RT).

EDIT: I would like to add that a 4080/4090 will be bottlenecked in traditional raster in some cases. But since the focus is RT, there really isn't many gpus from nvidia worth talking about and RTG at this point is out of the picture(outside of a few AMD sponsered titles).

EDIT2: I guess all I wrote is pointless :P. I missed your following posts. A tip for your 5800x3D is to get a offset bracket for your AIO. I run mine with an offset bracket and a 240 AIO from arctic freezer. Works like a charm.

I went from Nvidia to AMD recently and FSR is definitely inferior. I am not even the kind of person who notices these sorts of things normally, but there is lots more shimmering and artefacting with FSR than I ever saw with DLSS. It doesn't bother me, but I can see how it could bother others.

What game/games are we talking about here and is it the FSR included in the control panel or via ingame support? There are plenty of games that have excellent FSR support where you would be hard pressed to tell the difference and then there are the Red dead redemptions of the world where the implementation of FSR is horrible.

Been tuning the 7900xt & settled at a stable overclock looping Port Royal that benches 15k:
2450-3300 clock range but averages 2800 & peaks at 2951 @960mv.
10% over power using 350w.
VRAM 2650.
Fan curve to hit 100% at 78c hotspot so normally runs 75% in games which is not too loud & hits 60c / 74c.

Cyberpunk RT ultra /med-high but FSR performance at 3072x1728 looks ok & holds 60fps so can use black frame insertion for a no blur experience even though TV can do Freesync 2 pro. I can hope the 20GB VRAM & future improvements of FSR helps with RT. Port Royal benches show better RT than than a 4070ti but reckon DLSS is better than FSR2. Sometimes see 14GB VRAM used. The Matrix tech demo is jaw dropping maxed out at a solid 60fps 4k.

Running 5800X3D with a -30 curve in BIOS & sometimes boosts to 4650 with an all core max of 4450 which holds at 72c with a 4yr old corsair 240 rad & idles at 40c where an exhaust fan ramps up from 50% to 100% at 52c (so can cool GPU not CPU). Since moving from 3600X to 5800X3D the read rate of the 2x Gen3 m.2 RAID0 has increased from 4200 to 5800 which is noticeable in game loading.

All in costing £900 after selling 2080 & a good bump in performance for a 4yr old rig. Reckon if got a 7900xtx the PC would have to go in another room with the fans trying keep it cool in order to be a worthy jump from the current 7900xt clocks.

Cyberpunk is the game I am playing most just now, and I see shimmering everywhere there is fine detail like fences and stairs in the distance.
 
I’ve not noticed FSR shimmering but Cyberpunk has lots of lights & lens flare.
I can post GPU clocks & Cyberpunk RT settings for 4k/60 if anyone is interested.
 
New stable clocks after getting rid of 2x Gen3 NVMe & 2x HDD both RAID0 & replacing with WD Black 850x 2GB under the GPU in order to reduce the PCI lanes used.
Plus lots of BIOS tweaks to reduce lag etc as per:

Current clocks run 60c GPU, 82c RAM, 74c hotspot.
GPU 500/3300 >don't ever hit 3300 but none RT stuff can go over 3200 with RT down around 2900 @ 950mv
RAM 2800 default timing
15% over power
Gobbles up 418W under load (my attempt at MB BIOS only hit 366W)
Port Royal broke the top 100 :D
