I hope this provokes a bit of infighting, will be funny if it's reported internally as an "accident" with no official media in Russia even acknowledging that in reality it was shot down.

I guess this was the best way of dealing with him, kill him but still make it (barely) ambiguous with some laughably transparent deniability, they couldn't let a move against Putin go unpunished + Wagner shot down Russian Airforce aircraft killing several so no love lost there.

Also, I wonder if the date is relevant, the Wagner insurrection was on the 23rd of June and today is the 23rd of August.

For sure, once he’d committed to that it was do or die he might as well have gone down fighting rather than bottling out and waiting till the revenge dish was cold and they finished him off.

Seems rather unlikely unless he's been very lucky and/or the Russians have screwed up. There is another Wagner jet flying above Moscow right now but there are reports that he was on the one shot down.

Not sure, many business would continue without their CEO. He may have succession plans in place although I suspect Putin will intervene.

I don't know how closely Wagner was tied to Prighozin's personal fortune.

I think it kills any chance of an uprising, Putin just made it clear, don't cross him, seems not only Prigo was on board but also possibly his 2nd in command Utkin, the guy with the nazi tattoos

I'd not put it past him to fake his own death, though being Russia and all the more likely explanation was the plane was shot down :s
 
Well, they’ve said his name was on the passenger manifest.
Like a cockroach it wouldn’t surprise me if he re-appeared one day.

If I’d failed a coup attempt and was a billionaire in Russia I’d be looking for any chance to fake my death I could get!
