MOT

As above, never had one done at a main dealer. Normally just pick whoever is going to give it to me for the least money.

Only ever used the main dealer when it's service + MOT and under warranty.
As soon as I'm out of warranty, independents all the way.

I do the service and mot together at the dealer where I bought the car. For my previous car I used a local garage with the best reputation. The experience at the main dealer has been better and I haven't noticed that it's more expensive at all. I'm quite likely to buy my next car from them and continue doing the same.

I don't use main dealers for anything they just rip off people that don't know any better.
Sometimes they're worth using. I use mine for servicing because by the time you add the "premium" oil charge and factor in the loss of the 12 months breakdown cover the dealer throws in then even somewhere like Halfords/Kwikfit/etc are a chunk more expensive for a decent service.

My current car goes to the local 'main dealer' (family run business that isn't a franchise and have been in business since the 1980s) they did warranty repair work on it previously and I was more than happy with the service given compared to the actual main dealer in my town that I had a bad first experience with.

I use the local garage for both MOT and servicing - I've generally had good experiences with them and they come across as honest people.

Only ever used a dealer for MOT.

But that’s as I’ve only had Used Approved or a Service Plan on Car.

Took my partners to a local independent and had no issues.

yes back in the early 2000`s when a local Ford main dealer had competitive prices I took a Fiesta to them a few times.

i think it was £39.99 for an MOT and they did not seem to find faults just to make more money.

but i think main dealers have different bosses and staff so you cant compare anyway.

Always used an independent for the last 15+ years, but for my last MOT in June I used the main dealer as a service recall was needed.

The MB dealer didn't charge anymore than an independent garage, I received a video of the car from underneath and a checklist of various parts.

The video was a nice surprise, the worn brake discs and tyre wear advisory wasn't (service advisory not MOT). The discs were only replaced last summer and car driven for around 5K (90% motorway), tyres were replaced in December.

This is the reason I stopped using independents, the last dealer replaced discs and pads and when the car was in a couple of months later for some other work they mentioned the discs needed replacing :(

I travel up to Yorkshire for my MOT, its a small garage but they are brilliant, they let you supply your own parts but i trust them to get me a great deal £30 labour for a wishbone fitting why would i mess around outside for that price i always think

They must be utterly amazing to drive the whole length of the country for an MOT!
