That is the question how far to Takmok will the Ukrainians need to go before the rest of the Russian needs to fall back?

Just read the Crimea S400 was destroyed by a new Neptune missile, configured for land attack
I bet Turkey is now regretting investing so heavily into the S400 system, not only have they been kicked out the F35 programme they've ended up with anti air defence system that can't even protect itself against air attacks.

I'd wager they need to make it impossible/very difficult for Russia to make use the railways that goes through there.

Looking at the Deepstate map Russia has built a ring of steel around that town, that should tell all you need to know about the towns importance in the area.

You know Putin is the one who killed Prigozhin based on the way Russian media has been instructed to present the story.

For example when Alexander Dugin'a daughter died in a car bomb, within 10 minutes Russian news claimed the FSB had solved the case and Ukraine/Britain was behind the bombing and it was carried out by an elite ukranian spy. Same when the Crimea bridge was bombed the first time - FSB solved the case within minutes and blamed Ukraine/NATO

Now Prigozhin's plane has been blown up, it's been over 24 hours and the only word from Russian news is "we will conduct an investigation".

I suspect its now in artillery range...once its no use as a transport hub, all the trenches in the world wont matter

They aren't going to cut the supply.
In order to cut the supply they need a breach down to the black sea, to take out and keep taken out the crimea bridge (fully), and supress totally naval activity to supply crimea.
Thats some list!

However they can disrupt supplies significantly and make it difficult to keep the troops supplied.
Look at the holdouts Ukraine had at the start, fairly small amounts of supplies can keep a force fighting. Until they run out of course.

I thought they would say it was Ukraine. Prigozhin was a popular figure so it would possibly boost support for the war. Most people will still assume it's Putin but they could rally behind the lie. The fact they haven't said it's Ukraine indicates to me that Putin wants everyone to absolutely definitely know it was him, and that he wants them to know that he knows they know.

I disagree. S400 is part of an air defence network. Its the long range, reach out of touch to 150 miles. It is supposed to have its own point blank Rapier Class system the `Morfey`, 15km range at high speed based on TOR-M1, however it only reached IOC after a decade, last year.

It's a double edged sword. Himars/shell the roads and rail in and wait. As was mentioned the other day trenches and minefields are all well and good to slow/stop an advance in one direction, but are limited use otherwise. All these layers Russia has built up I very much doubt are fully manned, More like waiting for the previous line to fall back to. If that's the case they wont have mined as heavily as the first line otherwise they would have the first line running over them as they withdraw

The guardian is reporting over 500,000 casualties now combined but concedes the figures are vague because the Russians underestimate (no ****), and the Ukrainians don't release and the US doesn't focus on it.

Interesting that this republican in the USA has submitted an amendment which will force the secretary of defense to report to Congress and therefore public on all deaths, injuries and equipment losses for both sides.

Will take 180 days for it to come out. I wonder what the figures will say? Presumably the intelligence agencies have a relatively good idea. If it sustains (I suspect will exceed :/ ) the 500k figure then that is absolutely shocking.

Of course he did, the date by itself is too much of a coincidence. Putin loves sending these messages to his fellow elites and the world.

That number was reported around a week ago in the New York Times, so the sources are probably decent.

Given the Russian losses that have already been reported by Ukraine, 500,000 could be a significant underestimate.

If the figure is anywhere near accurate, attrition is now a big issue for both Ukraine and Russia.

From the people ive spoken to the numbers are around 3:1 ; the Guardian is underestimating the Russian casulaities (they have more death to to lack of medical care) and wounded are returning to the fight, so could be counted more than once.
