In one word, Putin. He's noticed that migration is a very contentious issue for the west. What better way to cause infighting in the EU and extend hybrid warfare?
The more conflicts there are, the more migration there will be.

Surely we send so much aid to these countries that we should effectively be allowed to choose their governments, as this "aid" has effectively been used to prop their corrupt current governments up for years anyway.

That would be Carrier Strike group 12, consistently of 2 Cruisers (Ticonderoga class), 6 Destroyers (all Arleigh-Burke), unknown amount of Submarines, plus a Carrier Wing of Super Hornets, Growlers, etc. Some fine amount of US tax dollars for sure.
Ukrainian's SBU is claiming a huge success in attacking the Kursk airfield, remains to be seen if those wild claims are legit
SBU claims to have launched 16 drones and 13 achieved direct hits on targets, targets hit include:
* Four SU-30 Jets
* One Mig-29 Jet
* One S-300 Radar system
* Two Pantsir system launchers
That's $280 million in damage plus however much an S-300 radar station costs, I can't find the cost of that
