Ukraine using cruise missiles in Crimea, they were also used to destroy that S400 system a few days ago

It must be causing quite a lot of confusion for Russia, their upgraded Soviet air defence missile batteries getting taking out by Ukraine's upgraded Soviet anti-ship missile's.

Russia be like "are we doing Soviet missiles wrong? Or maybe they are doing anti ship missiles wrong?" :P

I think most likely Ukraine has reversed engineered the Iranian Shahed drones, that Russia has been using in large numbers. These are quite simple, easy and cheap to produce - the parts to built one cost around 10K USD. With a range of at least 900km they can easily fly from Ukraine to Moscow or Pskov.

I doubt Ukroboronprom engineers need to reverse engineer anything.

Yep. Just the basic idea of a cheap drone produced in large volumes is enough. They are probably quite easy to make. The next step is to get large swarms of cheap drones coordinating on attacks so they overwhelm defences. I suspect China are already doing this considering their recent New Year celebrations with a swarm acting together.

Surely the washing machine supply will run out soon?
I can't tell if this is a joke anymore

A reminder for everyones sake, the meme about using chips from stolen washing machines was engineered early on in the war to convince you that
1. sanctions are working and Russia has no access to advanced electronics
2. that Russians steal and pillage every thing they can lay their hands on and
3. that their missile supply is about to run out "any day now".
And it was translated by highest ranking politicians, because it was vital for them that you believe all of it.

It has been more than a year of almost daily massed missile and drone attacks and if anything, the rate is increasing.

Lies and manipulations from day 1.

Schapps going into Defense, that's a disaster.
you just hope that the civil servants and general staff of the army still just crack on regardless of the minister ( my godson was in DCMS when mad nad was the minister in charge and they effectively just ignored her and got on their their jobs)

Defence Secretary has always been a big job for one man.... which is why Grant Shapps will do great, because there are at least 3 of him!

Plus he has a very impressive CV - not many other people could boast to have been transport secretary, home secretary, business secretary, and energy secretary in the past year.

The article says it is traders using the facilities then selling it on (storage and specialist port facilities), so not for EU use but then shipped to the ROW.

This is untrue.

The they were harvesting chips thing was basically unknown as to how much and whether it was of any level of consequence.
Whats for sure happened is that the supply of chips from alternate sources has been proven.

What is probably most likely is that at the very start there was a supply issue in Russia. Which they have now basically circumvented.

Russians certainly DO steal and pillage everything they can get their hands on. I suspect the vast majority of the stolen goods, (including toilets ffs), were in fact spoils of war for the looters and not for the chips.
There is so much documentary evidence of trucks and cars and even tanks with white goods strapped to them its impossible to say it wasnt happening.
I even saw a twitter post where a Russia girl was celebrating their new toilet.

Their initial supply certainly must have been hammered as there was a noticeable drop in attacks. And they also needed to secure the Iranian drones.
Of course over time they have managed to adapt, with sanction busting etc they are producing more.
The recent missile components recovered lead to many Western companies, and VERY recent production.

IIRC one of them had marking suggesting it was less than 3 months old at the time the remains were recovered.

I certainly believe that they must have run through far more munitions than they had anticipated or allowed for, and if not exhausted their stocks then certainly run them down to a point where they were reluctant to dip into the stuff that they had for other specific purposes (defence in other areas).

Russia have been forced to augment its attacks (precision missile attacks) with Iranian drones, while also ramping it’s own production as much as 5 times. Even with these measures the rate of Russian attack has fallen dramatically over the course of the war.

The later produced missiles have been found to contain salvaged and smuggled components. Early on Russia was firing cruise missiles, Smerch rockets and artillery at anything and everything possible. Now that capability has been greatly diminished.
